It is a great shame to have to throw away fresh products that you have left over. Therefore, consider freezing the peppers you have left so that you can use them all year round. Do this if you have found a good deal on peppers, or have harvested a lot of peppers from your garden.

To step

Part 1 of 3: Preparing the peppers

  1. Choose peppers that are ripe and crispy. Overripe peppers should be prepared immediately.
  2. Rinse the peppers under a cold tap.
  3. Cut the peppers in half with a sharp knife. Remove the seeds and the seeds.
  4. Cut the peppers into vertical strips or cubes. How you cut them depends on how you like to use them in recipes. You can also choose a portion of one, and a portion of the other — freeze these portions separately.

Part 2 of 3: Freezing the peppers

  1. Grab a baking tray that fits in the freezer. Rearrange the items in the freezer so that the baking sheet has a flat surface that it can stand on for an hour.
  2. Cover the baking tray with parchment paper. You do this to prevent the vegetables from sticking to the plate.
  3. Spread the strips or cubes of bell pepper over the baking tray. Make sure they are not clumped - air must be able to circulate around each piece of pepper.
  4. Freeze the peppers to cool them down. The temperature in the freezer should be -18º Celsius or lower.
  5. Leave the bell pepper in the freezer for thirty to sixty minutes. Make sure all pieces of bell pepper are frozen when you take them out of the freezer.

Part 3 of 3: Storing the frozen peppers

  1. Remove the peppers from the baking paper with a spoon or spatula.
  2. Put the peppers in small freezer bags. Choose about 90-175 grams of bell pepper per bag.
  3. Squeeze all the air out of the freezer bag. Close the bag tightly. If you have a vacuum sealer, the peppers will stay even fresher.
  4. Indicate the content and date on the bag.
  5. Keep the vegetables in the freezer. They can keep for eight months.

Tips

  • While you should blanch most foods before freezing them, bell peppers are a lot more versatile. You can freeze them without blanching them first. If you still want to blanch the peppers for use in certain recipes, such as chili or lasagna, you can place the strips in boiling water for a minute or two. Then put them in a bowl of ice for two minutes before freezing.
