This article will show you how to prevent your name from appearing in the Recommended Friends list. Although the name cannot be completely removed from this list, if you tighten the profile's privacy settings, it will appear less often in it.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Change settings on your mobile phone

1. 1 Launch the Facebook application. Its icon looks like a white "F" on a blue background. You can find it on one of the desktops or in the application bar.
   • If you're not automatically signed in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password and tap Sign In.
2. 2 Tap the ☰ button in the lower-right (iPhone) or upper-right (Android) corner of the screen.
3. 3 Scroll down and tap Settings at the bottom of the page.
   • On Android, tap the "Profile Settings" option.
4. 4 Tap Profile settings at the top of the pop-up menu.
   • If you have an Android device, skip this step.
5. 5 Tap Privacy Settings at the top of the page.
6. 6 Tap Who Can See People, Pages & Lists You Follow?... It's under the heading "Your Actions" at the top of the page.
7. 7 Select Just me. Now only you will see people from your list of friends and subscribers.
8. 8 Tap Save in the upper right corner of the screen.
   • If this option is not available, tap the Back button in the upper left corner of the screen.
9. 9 Tap Who can send you friend requests? in the middle of the page.
10. 10 Select Friends of Friends. After that, only friends of friends will be able to send you a request to add to friends.
11. 11 Tap Save.
12. 12 Tap “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to display your profile in search results?" at the bottom of the page.
13. 13 Tap the option Allow search engines outside of Facebook to display your profile in search results at the bottom of the page.
14. 14 Tap Confirm. Users on Facebook will no longer be able to find you outside of Facebook. In addition, now that you have tightened your privacy settings, your name will appear less frequently in other users' Recommended Friends, and other users will not be able to see your mutual friends or followers.

Part 2 of 3: Change your computer's privacy settings

1. 1 Go to Facebook site. If you log in automatically, you will find yourself in your News Feed.
   • Otherwise, enter your email address (or phone number) and password in the upper right corner of the page and click Sign In.
2. 2 Click on ▼ in the upper right corner of the page.
3. 3 Click on Settings at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
4. 4 Click on Privacy in the panel on the left.
5. 5 Click on Edit next to the option “Who can send you friend requests?»On the right side of the window. Section "Who can send you friend requests?" located approximately in the middle of the page.
6. 6 Click the All option under the Who Can Send You Friend Requests?».
7. 7 Select Friends of Friends. After that, only friends of your Facebook friends will be able to send you a friend request (or see you in the Recommended Friends menu).
8. 8 Click on Close in the upper right corner of the “How can I find and contact you?».
9. 9 Click on Edit next to the last option on this page. It's the "Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to display your profile in search results?"
10. 10 Uncheck "Allow search engines outside of Facebook to display your profile in search results." After that, users will no longer be able to find you on Google, Yandex, or any other search engine outside of Facebook.

Part 3 of 3: Protecting Your Computer Friends List

1. 1 Click on the tab with your name at the top of the page.
2. 2 Click on the Friends option at the bottom right of your profile picture.
3. 3 Click on Edit privacy settings in the upper right corner of your friends list.
4. 4 Click the box to the right of the Friends List option that says Shared or Friends.
5. 5 Click on Just me. Thanks to this, only you will see people on your friend list.
6. 6 Click on the box next to the "Subscriptions" option that says "Shared with Everyone" or "Friends".
7. 7 Click on Just me.
8. 8 Click the Finish button at the bottom of the Edit Privacy Settings window. Now your friends and followers list will not be available to everyone, which means that other users will not be able to see you as a recommended friend based on mutual friends.

Tips

• Tightening your privacy settings is a reliable way to reduce the number of friend requests from random users.

Warnings

• While doing all of the above will significantly reduce the number of users you will appear on your recommended friends list, it is impossible to completely exclude yourself from this list.
