In this article, you can read how to stop someone's posts from appearing in your news feed. By unfollowing a certain person, you will no longer automatically see anything from that person, while, unlike when you block someone, you can still view the profile of that friend by going to his or her Facebook page.

To step

Method 1 of 2: On a smartphone

  1. Open Facebook. The app icon is in the shape of a blue square with a white letter "f" on it. If you're already signed in to Facebook, this will take you straight to your news feed.
    • If you're not already signed in to Facebook, enter your email address (or phone number) and password first, then tap login.
  2. Tap the search bar. You can find it at the top of the screen.
  3. Type in your friend's name. This should be the name of the person you want to unfollow on Facebook. As you type, suggestions appear below the search bar.
    • You can also click on your friend's name in your "Friends List" or in your News Feed if you want.
  4. Tap his or her name. The name you are looking for should appear as the first option below the search bar.
  5. Tap the "Next" button. You'll find it in the row of options right below your profile picture and your Facebook friend's name.
    • You automatically follow all the friends you have added.
  6. Tap the Unfollow button. This option is in the far left corner of the drop-down menu almost at the very bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap the top of the screen. This way you exit the menu and save the changes. You will no longer see status updates from this person in your News Feed.

Method 2 of 2: On a PC

  1. Open the website of Facebook. If you are already logged in, this will take you directly to your news feed or your news overview.
    • If you haven't signed up with Facebook yet, first enter your email address (or your phone number) in the top right corner of the screen and click login.
  2. Click on the search bar. It's a white text field at the top of the page that says "Search Facebook" in it.
  3. Enter the name of your boyfriend or girlfriend here. So this must be the Facebook name of the person you want to unfollow. As you type, suggestions appear below the search bar.
    • You can also click on your friend's name in your "Friends List" or in your News Feed if you want.
  4. Press on the ↵ Enter-test. Facebook will then search your account for your friend's name.
  5. Click on his or her name. That should be the first option at the top of this page.
  6. Place the mouse cursor on the "Next" button. You can find him almost at the top of your friend's Facebook page, to the right of his or her profile picture.
  7. Click Unfollow [Name]. This option can be found at the bottom of the "Follow" drop-down menu. This is how you unfollow the boyfriend or girlfriend in question. That way, all notifications of his or her activities will be removed in one go, and you won't see any of his or her publications in your news feed anymore.

Tips

  • You can also unfollow people by tapping or clicking the arrow in the top right corner of one of his or her posts in your News Feed and then Unfollow [Name] to select.

Warnings

  • The friend in question may notice that you are no longer following him or her if you suddenly don't like or comment on his or her posts.
