It is normal to feel self-conscious about the hair on your upper lip or between your eyebrows. There are many ways to get rid of unwanted facial hair, including waxing and shaving, but using a depilatory cream may be one of the quickest, easiest, and least painful options. Do a test on your skin, clean your skin, apply the cream and then remove it.

Part 1 of 3: Testing and cleaning your skin

1. Read the product information. While it may seem like an obvious process, it is still important to read the directions and make sure you understand them before using the cream. Different brands of hair removal cream have slightly different instructions.

   • Use a cream specifically for use on the face. Not all depilatory creams can be used on the face.

2. Do a test on a small area of ​​skin. Especially if you have never used the cream before, it is good to try it on a small area of ​​skin before applying a significant amount to your face. Follow the instructions and apply the cream to a small area on your jawline. If you don't notice any reactions or irritations after 24 hours, it is probably safe to use it on your face.
3. Wash your face. Your face should be clean and dry when you apply depilatory cream. To wash your face properly, wet it with warm water, apply cleanser, and then exfoliate your skin. Finally, rinse your face with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel.

Part 2 of 3: Applying the cream

1. Apply the cream to your facial hair with a cosmetic spatula. Usually a cosmetic spatula is supplied with the depilatory cream as part of the kit. Put a little depilatory cream on the curved end of the cosmetic spatula. Gently cover any hair you want to remove with a thick layer of cream.
   • For best results, apply the cream immediately after showering or towards the end of your shower.
   • In the absence of a spatula, you can also apply the cream with your fingers or a cotton swab.
   • If you are using the cream to remove unwanted hair on your eyebrows, draw the edge of your eyebrows first with an eyebrow pencil. Then apply the cream to the hair that falls outside the lines you created.
2. Wash your hands immediately. If you have some cream on your hands, it is a good idea to wash them after you are done applying. Wash your hands with hand soap and warm water, then dry them with a clean towel.
3. Leave the cream on for five minutes. Most brands of depilatory cream recommend leaving the cream on for about five minutes. However, some brands may be different, so read the instructions carefully. Also set an alarm on your phone or use a kitchen timer so you don't forget the time.
   • Leave the cream on for a few more minutes if you have thick hair.
   • Do not let it work for longer than 10 minutes.

Part 3 of 3: Removing the cream

1. Check if the hair is coming off. Use a spatula or washcloth to remove a tiny amount of the cream. Take a close look at the area to make sure enough time has passed for the hair to dissolve.
2. Wipe the cream off with a damp washcloth. As soon as you notice hair coming off, dampen a washcloth with warm water and gently wipe off any cream. When you are done, hand wash the washcloth to get rid of all the cream and hair and set it on the counter to dry.
3. Splash your face with cool water. Finally, rinse your face with cold water from the tap to make sure no loose hairs are left on your skin. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
4. Apply a moisturizer. To prevent your skin from drying out or becoming irritated, it's a good idea to apply some moisturizing face cream to your skin just after rinsing your face. Massage the moisturizer into your skin in circular motions. Apply the cream all over your face, but give some extra attention to the area where the hair was just removed.
   • If you notice excessive redness, itching, flaking, or other signs of extreme skin irritation, see your doctor and don't use the depilatory cream.

Warnings

• After using a depilatory cream, do not apply perfumed products to your face, do not swim, sunbathe, or use a tanning bed for the next 24 hours. Your skin could get irritated otherwise.
• Never leave the depilatory cream on your skin for more than 10 minutes or longer than the designated maximum time. This can cause a painful burning sensation and / or irritate your skin.
