An airfryer is a device that floats food, such as bacon, in a wire basket and allows hot air to flow over and around it. This produces effects that resemble baking, grilling and deep-frying. In addition, you need a lot less oil compared to other baking methods and the excess fat drips off during frying. Finally, baking salty meat steaks in the airfryer will make your morning indulgence considerably healthier and just as tasty as the fried bacon you already know and love.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Prepare bacon in the airfryer

  1. Preheat the airfryer before adding the bacon. The airfryer needs about two to three minutes of preheating time. This allows the appliance to reach the necessary temperature for cooking the bacon. With most models, you simply set the airfryer to the desired temperature and wait at least two minutes to put the bacon in the basket of the airfryer.
    • Only use the airfryer on flat and heat-resistant surfaces. Also make sure that there is a free space of at least a hand's length behind the outlet of the airfryer.
  2. Spray oil on the bacon. You should apply a thin layer of oil directly to the bacon that you put in the airfryer basket. The best way to do this is to use a spray bottle filled with your favorite oil. Also spray oil on the bottom of the basket to prevent sticking. For crispy bacon, just sprinkle a single thin layer of oil on top.
    • Opt for a plastic spray bottle with a pump and fill it with liquid oil, such as olive oil.
    • Although you can buy sprayable oil, the aerosol can break down the non-stick coating on the items you use in your kitchen (including the basket of your airfryer).
  3. Keep space between the bacon. Limit the amount of bacon you put in the basket so it doesn't get overfull. Since different sizes of basket exist, there is no ideal standard quantity. The important thing is that the air can circulate around the bacon and hit almost all sides of the bacon. You should not pile up the bacon as it will cover some of the pieces.
    • Good air circulation shortens baking time and ensures optimal baking results, especially in terms of crispness.
  4. Shake the basket while baking. While the airfryer is cooking the bacon, pause it once or twice to remove and shake the basket. This will move the bacon into the basket and ensure that it cooks evenly. To make sure each piece is properly adjusted during cooking, you can also use tongs to flip the individual bacon slices.
  5. Follow the directions that came with the airfryer. Baking times and baking temperatures will vary by model. Therefore, use the table or another source of information supplied with the airfryer to determine the correct baking time and temperature.
    • One of the advantages of the airfryer is that you can remove the basket every time you want to check the food.

Method 2 of 3: Handling the airfryer

  1. Put water in the drip tray. Since bacon is naturally fat, fat will likely drip from the bacon into the drip tray under the frying basket. Put a little water in the container to prevent the fat from burning and causing smoke. This helps cool the fat.
    • To minimize the amount of fat that drips off the bacon during cooking, pat each slice individually with kitchen paper before placing them in the fry basket.
    • The smoke from fat and oil is white. If black smoke ever comes out of your airfryer, turn it off immediately. Once the unit has cooled, look inside the heating element and remove any food that got inside.
  2. Let the airfryer cool down. Switch off the airfryer as soon as you are done. The unit may have a shutdown process that keeps the fan running while it cools down. If so, don't be alarmed if it is still making noise and check if it is turned off. The fan will probably turn off by itself after 20 to 30 seconds.
    • Do not touch the airfryer until it has cooled down. Unplug and remove fry basket and drawer.
  3. Wash the parts of the airfryer with hot soapy water. Make sure you wash the basket, the drawer where the basket enters and the drip tray under the basket. Use a sponge or soft brush to avoid damaging the non-stick coating. Soaking the parts in soapy water can make cleaning easier. These parts can probably also be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher.
    • Wipe the surface of the device with a damp and clean cloth and clean all areas that need it.
  4. Switch the airfryer back on to let it dry. After cleaning and rinsing, turn the device back on. Leave it on for two or three minutes. This dries the parts of the device better than by hand. Do not forget to switch it off again after drying and unplug it.
    • Always store the airfryer in a clean and dry place.

Method 3 of 3: Prepare dishes with bacon in the airfryer

  1. Make meatloaf with bacon. To make a multi-serving dish, first take a pound of ground beef, 150g breadcrumbs, 60g ketchup, 5g each of salt and pepper, 15g dried onion, a beaten egg, two thin slices of bacon and barbecue sauce. Combine everything in a bowl, except the bacon and sauce, and make an approximately 6-inch long loaf tin.
    • After preheating, bake the meatloaf at 175 ° C for 20 minutes. Remove the basket with the meatloaf still in it.
    • Cut the bacon into shorter slices and place on top of the meatloaf. Put sauce on each slice with a brush and let everything bake in the airfryer for another 15 minutes.
    • Make sure the meatloaf is done before you switch off the airfryer. If not, bake it for 5 minutes at a time until the meatloaf is completely cooked.
  2. Fry shrimp wrapped in bacon. For four servings, take 16 peeled and gutted tiger prawns and 16 thin slices of bacon. With the bacon at room temperature, wrap each slice around a shrimp. Start at the head of the shrimp and wrap towards the tail. Place the beautiful meat figurines in the fridge for 20 minutes. Preheat the airfryer to 200 ° C and fry the bacon wrapped shrimp for 5 to 7 minutes.
    • Let your creations cool and drip the excess liquid onto a paper towel before serving.
  3. Bake cheese and bacon croquettes. For six servings, take a pound of spicy cheddar, a pound of thinly sliced bacon, 60g olive oil, 240g flour, 2 beaten eggs and 240g breadcrumbs. Cut the cheese into six portions and wrap each portion in two slices of bacon. The bacon should completely coat the cheese.
    • Freeze your creations for five minutes to make them firmer and make sure you don't forget them.
    • Preheat the airfryer to 200 ° C. Meanwhile, mix the breadcrumbs with the oil until evenly blended. Dip each cube of cheese and bacon in flour, then in the eggs, then in the breadcrumbs mixture and press well to bond.
    • If desired, dip them again in the eggs and then in the breadcrumbs. This prevents the cheese from escaping.
    • Bake the croquettes in the airfryer for 7 to 8 minutes or until they start to brown.

Warnings

  • Never try to disassemble and maintain your airfryer yourself. Contact the seller or manufacturer to find out what to do in the event of a malfunction.
