Want to delete songs you no longer listen to from your iPod Touch or iPod Classic? If you have an iPod Touch, you can delete songs directly from your device, without connecting your iPod to a computer. If you are using an iPod with a click wheel, or an iPod Nano, you will first need to connect the iPod to your computer, then use iTunes (or another program) to delete the songs you no longer want.

Method 1 of 2: iPod Touch (and iPhone and iPad)

1. Open Settings.
2. Select "General" and then "Use".
3. Select "Manage Storage" in "Storage".
4. Select "Music" from the list of apps.
5. Tap the "Edit" button. You will see red "-" buttons appear next to all listed music tracks.
6. Delete all your music. If you want to delete all music from your device, tap the "-" next to "All Music" and then tap the "Delete" button that appears. If you don't want to delete all music, check out the next step.
7. Delete individual songs, albums or artists. You can delete individual songs, entire albums, or just everything from a particular artist.
   • To delete all songs from an artist, tap the "Edit" button, then the red "-" next to the artist's name, then the "Delete" button that appears.
   • If you want to delete an album or an individual song, turn off the edit mode so you can browse the music. Tap an artist to show all albums by that artist that you have on your device, then tap an album to view all songs. When you have found something you want to delete, tap the "Edit" button, the red "-", then the "Delete" button.

Method 2 of 2: iPod Classic and Nano

1. Connect your iPod to your computer with the accompanying USB cable.
2. Open iTunes. If the computer you are connecting the iPod to does not have an iTunes library, you will be prompted to delete everything from your iPod while syncing. The only way to avoid this is to sync on a computer that has your iTunes library on it.
   • If you don't want to use iTunes, you can use a program like Sharepod, but almost any other program will require iTunes to be installed in order to work. Still, they can be very useful if you want to manage music on a computer that isn't yours, and you don't want all your music deleted when you sync. 3. Select your iPod from the row of buttons at the top of iTunes. If you are using iTunes 11, select it from the Devices menu. This should display the "Overview" tab.
4. Check the box next to "Manually manage music and videos" at the bottom of the overview screen. Click Apply. Now you can select songs and choose which ones you want to delete.
5. Select "Music" from the "On my device" menu. You will be presented with a list of all music stored on your iPod.
6. Right-click on the song you want to delete and select "Delete". Hold down Shift and select multiple tracks to delete at the same time. You will have to confirm that you want to delete the numbers.
7. Wait for the removal process to finish. If you delete many songs at the same time, it may take a while to delete them all. You can check the progress at the top of the iTunes window.
