Mini sausage rolls are eaten as a snack all over the world. Usually they are made from sausages or pork rolled into dough, or in a slice of bacon. Mini sausage rolls are very easy and quick to make. In the Netherlands they are very popular at children's parties, in England they are part of the Christmas meal. Whenever you want to eat them, you can read how to make them here!

Ingredients

  • At least 4 frankfurters
  • 1 tin or packet of puff pastry
  • Ketchup and mustard as a dipping sauce (optional)
  • 1 beaten egg (optional)

To step

  1. Preheat the oven according to the directions on the puff pastry package (or according to the puff pastry recipe you make yourself). Usually the oven should be set at 190ºC.
  2. Separate the slices and make triangles from the puff pastry. Make sure the dough is neither too thick nor so thin that it breaks. Remember that the dough will still rise and expand in the oven.
  3. Break or cut the frankfurters in half. Place each half at the bottom of the triangle of puff pastry and roll it upwards (the wide side) so that the sausage is wrapped in the dough and is completely covered in the middle. If you use small frankfurters you can leave them whole, but long frankfurters should be halved.
  4. Place the rolled sausage rolls on a greased baking tray about 3 cm apart.
  5. Bake the mini sausage rolls for 11 to 15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown.
  6. Remove the baking pan from the oven and let the sausage rolls cool before serving. Ready!

Tips

  • If the inside of the puff pastry is still sticky, return the sausage rolls to the oven for a few more minutes. You cannot let them burn, but they must be cooked properly.
  • You can also use other pre-cooked sausages instead of frankfurters.
  • If the dough is not yet golden brown, bake the sausage rolls a little longer.
  • You can also take other types of canned sausage.
  • The American version of the sausage roll is made with sponge pastry instead of puff pastry.
  • If you want, you can add spices to the puff pastry.
  • If the puff pastry loosens before you put the sausage rolls in the oven, you can spread a little beaten egg on the frankfurters to help the dough stick better.
  • Let your mini sausage rolls cool before serving.

Warnings

  • Do not eat puff pastry that is undercooked.
  • If your sausage rolls aren't cooked properly yet, bake them a little longer, but be careful not to let them burn.
