If you are prone to oily skin, applying makeup is all about fighting excess oil. You can win this battle with grease-free, mattifying moisturizer, foundation and powder while you are using it. During the day you will have to combat unwanted shine with the help of so-called "blotting paper" and compact powder.
To step
Part 1 of 3: Prepare your skin
- Clean your face. When applying makeup, it's good to start with a clean, moisturized face. Before washing your face, you can pre-wash your skin. Rinse your face with warm water to remove dirt and oil from the surface of your skin. Apply a mild cleanser to your clean, damp face. Rinse off the product and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
- Resist the urge to wash oily skin several times a day. This strips your skin of its natural moisture and causes your sebaceous glands to produce far too much fat. Wash your face only in the morning and at night.
- Use foundation for oily skin. Powder foundation gives an even tone and at the same time fights excess fat. Before you buy foundation, read the labels carefully - make sure the product is grease-free, mattifying and non-clogging (for the pores). Apply a thin, even coat of powder with a powder brush. Make circular and dabbing movements with the brush.
- If it needs to cover even more, apply a second coat of powder with a clean damp sponge. Make circular and dabbing movements with the sponge.
- If you don't like powder foundation, get a mousse or a water-based liquid foundation.
- Apply a face mask for oily skin. Treat yourself to a face mask for oily skin once or twice a week. Choose a mask with kaolin or bentonite clay. Apply a thin layer of the mask to your face. Let it harden for 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse it off with warm water.
- Kaolin or bentonite clay absorbs oil and soothes irritated skin.
Tips
- Wash your hands before applying makeup.
- Blotting paper works really well for blotting up excess fat during the day, and it is available at drug stores.
- You can also blot up excess fat with a coffee filter.
- Blotting paper also works to blot excess oil from your skin.
Warnings
- If you use primer, make sure it is grease-free.
