This wikiHow teaches you how to view an Outlook (MSG) file on a computer without Outlook.There are a number of different online file converters you can use to view and download an MSG file in PDF format and the attachments from the MSG.

Method 1 of 2: Using Zamzar

1. Know when to use Zamzar. If you want a PDF version of your email along with any attachments up to the 20 megabyte Outlook limit, you can use Zamzar for that.
   • For Zamzar you need an email address to which the download link for your email and any attachments will be sent. If you don't want to give an email address, you can try Encryptomatic.
2. Open Zamzar. Go to https://www.zamzar.com/convert/msg-to-pdf with your browser.
3. click on Choosing files .... You can see this in the group "Step 1" at the center of the page. A File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window opens.
4. Select your MSG file. Go to the folder where you saved the MSG file and click the MSG file to select it.
5. click on To open. You can see this at the bottom right of the window. The MSG file will now be uploaded to Zamzar.
6. Click the "Convert files to" drop-down menu. You will see this option in the "Step 2" box. A drop-down menu will then appear.
7. click on PDF. You can see this under the heading "Documents" in the drop-down menu.
8. Enter your email address. Enter an active email address in the text field in the "Step 3" section.
9. click on Converts. This is a gray key in the section "Step 4". Zamzar will start converting your MSG file to a PDF file.
10. Open the page of the converted MSG file. Once the file has been converted, Zamzar will send you a confirmation email. Included is the link to the download page of your MSG file:
    • Open your email inbox.
    • Open the email "File Converted by Zamzar".
      • Also check the Spam folder (and the Updates folder, if available) if you haven't received an email within five minutes.
    • Click on the long link at the bottom of the email.
11. Download the converted PDF. Click on the green button Download now to the right of the PDF file. The file name will be the subject of the email (such as "hello") followed by ".pdf".
12. Download any attachments. If you had email attachments, you can download them by clicking Download now clicking to the right of the file name (zip attachment). The attachments will be downloaded to your computer in a zip folder.
    • You must extract the contents of the zip folder before you can open or view the attached attachments.

Method 2 of 2: Using Encryptomatic

1. Know when to use Encryptomatic. If you want to view an email without downloading it, Encryptomatic offers you that option for emails up to eight megabytes (including attachments). If the email in question contains attachments, you can also download them from the watch page.
   • The biggest flaw of Encryptomatic is the size limit on emails. If you want to download multiple attachments from your MSG file, you might be better off using Zamzar.
2. Open Encryptomatic. Using your browser, go to https://www.encryptomatic.com/viewer/ on your computer.
3. click on Choose File. This is a gray button at the top left of the page. A File Explorer window (Windows) or Finder window (Mac) opens.
4. Select your MSG file. Go to the folder where your MSG file is located and click once on the MSG file to select it.
5. click on To open. You can see this option at the bottom right of the window. Your MSG file will be uploaded to Encryptomatic.
   • You will see text marked "File is too large" on the right side of the button Choose File, then you cannot open the MSG file in Encryptomatic. In that case, try Zamzar.
6. click on See. This is a blue button to the right of the button Choose File. This will take you to the watch page.
7. Check your email. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to do this. You will see the text of the email as well as any images and formatting in this window.
8. Download any attachments. If your email contains attachments, you will see the name of the attachments to the right of the "Attachments:" heading in the middle of the page. Clicking on the name of an attachment will download it to your computer, where you can open the file as usual.

Tips

• If Outlook is installed on your computer, you can open any MSG file in Outlook by double-clicking it.

Warnings

• Some of your original images or formatting in the MSG file may not have been preserved when you download it from Zamzar.
