This article teaches you how to transfer your mobile phone number to a new iPhone. If you stay with the same provider, you can transfer your phone number with the SIM card. If the SIM card is not compatible with your new phone, your provider can provide you with a new SIM card. If you change your mobile provider, you have to transfer the phone number to the new provider.

Method 1 of 2: Stay with the same mobile carrier

1. Turn off your old phone. Before removing the SIM card from your phone, make sure your phone is turned off.
2. Find the SIM card holder on your old phone. The SIM card holder is an oval-shaped compartment with a hole on the side of your phone. On Samsung phones, the SIM card tray is usually at the top of the phone. On iPhones, the SIM card tray is usually located on the right side of the phone.
   • If your phone is one of the older models, the SIM card may not be compatible with some newer models. If so, you will need to contact your mobile operator to get a new SIM card.
3. Place the SIM card extraction tool in the hole. The SIM card extraction tool is usually included in the box when you buy a cell phone. It has a sharp point that fits into the hole of the SIM card holder. If you don't have a SIM card extraction tool, you can also use a paper clip or a pin.
4. Press down on the SIM card extraction tool. This will eject the SIM card tray along with the SIM card.
5. Eject the SIM card of the new iPhone. You can use the same SIM card extraction tool to eject the SIM card tray on the new iPhone. The SIM card tray of iPhones is usually on the right side.
6. Remove the SIM card from the old SIM card holder. After ejecting the holder, use your fingers to take the SIM card holder out of the phone. Turn it over so that the SIM card falls out of the SIM card holder.
7. Place the SIM card in the SIM card holder of the new iPhone. The SIM card holder has a slot in the shape of a SIM card. Align the notched corner of the SIM card with the notched corner of the SIM card holder and make sure the gold chip is on the bottom.
8. Place the SIM card holder of the new iPhone back into the phone. Now that the SIM card is in the new SIM card holder, you can place the card holder back in the new iPhone. Press to lock. When you turn on your new iPhone, it will now use the mobile number and any other information stored on that SIM card.
   • If you bought the iPhone second-hand, a SIM card restriction may have been set by the mobile operator of the previous owner. If so, find out how to unlock the phone so it can be used with a new provider.

Method 2 of 2: Change your mobile provider

1. View your current contract. Before switching to a new provider, you should contact the customer service of your current provider. Ask if you have any contractual obligations with that provider. If you switch while your contract is still running, a termination fee may be charged. If your contract is still ongoing, ask how long it will take before it expires, or ask how much the termination fee is.
   • Do not cancel your current contract. If you cancel your current contract, you will not be able to transfer your number to the new mobile provider.
2. Check whether your number can be transferred. If you are considering changing your mobile provider and you also want to transfer your number, then you should check to make sure that your number can be transferred to the new mobile provider. Most mobile operators offer this service as long as they operate in the same geographic area.

3. Contact the new mobile operator. Once you have chosen a new mobile provider, you will need to contact that provider and notify them of the number you wish to port. You may need to provide account information from your current mobile operator. If you have a new iPhone, you may also need to provide that phone's ESN / IMEI number. The new mobile provider will contact your current provider and initiate the transfer of your number. You may have to pay something to transfer your number to a new provider. 4. Insert the new SIM card into the new iPhone. When you transfer your number to a new mobile provider, they must send you a new phone or SIM card by post. When you receive the new SIM card, you must insert it into your iPhone. If you receive a new iPhone from the mobile provider, the new SIM card is already in it.
5. Contact the old mobile provider. The number porting should be done automatically. However, it is not a bad idea to contact your old cellular provider and make sure there are no more ongoing charges or debts to settle.
