Do you want to show the presentation you made on your iPad to everyone in the office? Want to play Angry Birds on a big screen? Do you want to show the people in your living room how to use an app? The AirPlay function in iOS and the Apple TV lets you stream your iPad screen directly to your television. This way everyone can see what you see on your iPad. Follow this guide to get it up and running in minutes.

Method 1 of 1: Set up the Apple TV

1. Check whether your devices are suitable. You must have an iPad 2 (or newer version) or an iPad mini to stream via AirPlay. Your Apple TV must be of the second, or later, generation.
   • Second-generation Apple TVs were released in late 2010. If your Apple TV is a parent, it will not support AirPlay.
   • The iPad 2 was released in 2011. The original iPads have model number A1219 or A1337 and are not compatible.
   • Make sure both devices have had the latest iOS update. This way you are assured of the highest possible quality streaming.
2. Turn on your TV and Apple TV. Make sure your television's input is set to Apple TV. You should now see the Apple TV interface.
   • Check in the "Settings" menu whether AirPlay is on.
3. Connect your iPad to your home network. In order to stream your iPad to the television screen, your iPad and your Apple TV must both be connected to the same network.
4. Stream specific content to your TV. If you'd rather stream a specific song or movie to your TV, open it on your iPad and tap the AirPlay icon. This symbol can be found in the "Control Panel" on the iPad. To open this panel, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. When you enable this option, the iPad sends the song or movie to the Apple TV screen.
   • If the content on the TV is streaming, you can use your iPad as a remote control. You can play, pause, fast-forward a song, etc. If you are streaming photos, swipe to the next photo to show it.
5. Decide whether to enable "video mirroring". With this function, both the iPad and the Apple TV show the entire display of the iPad. The "video mirroring" is especially useful for playing iPad games on your TV and giving presentations.
   • To enable "Video Mirroring", select Airplay> Apple TV> Video Mirroring in the "Control Panel". Tap the latter so that it turns green.

Tips

• Make sure your Apple TV and your iPad are on the same wireless network before trying to connect.

Warnings

• There may be a slight delay when using AirPlay's "video mirroring". This is particularly noticeable with some music apps, such as GarageBand, and some games.
