Unlike many other social media platforms, Instagram offers the possibility to change your username whenever you want. This way, other users can easily find you and tag you in photos. Do you want to be easier to find or are you just ready for a change? Then you can change your username by following the steps below.

To step

Method 1 of 2: On the mobile app

1. Open the Instagram app. Tap the icon on your home screen or find Instagram in your apps.
2. Press the profile button. This icon resembles a person and can be found at the bottom right of the app. You will now be directed to your Instagram profile.
3. Press "Edit Profile". This is the gray button below your posts and followers.
4. Press your username. Here you will find your current username, which you can now change.
5. Enter your new username. This name is not automatically saved.
6. When you are satisfied with your new username, press Done. This button can be found at the bottom of the page.
   • If your new username has already been taken by someone else, a notification will now appear on your screen.
   • If the username is available, you will be notified that your new profile has been saved.

Method 2 of 2: On a computer

1. Go to the Instagram website.
2. Enter your current username and password. Do this on the right half of your screen.
3. Click Login. If you entered your account details correctly, you will now be taken to your Instagram feed.
4. Click on the profile button. This icon resembles a person and can be found at the top right of your screen. You will now be directed to your Instagram profile.
5. Click on "Edit Profile". This is the big button to the right of your username and profile picture.
6. Click on your username. Here you will find your current username, which you can now change.
7. Enter your new username. This name is not automatically saved.
8. Click Save when you are happy with your new username. This button can be found at the top of the page.
   • If your new username has already been taken by someone else, a notification will now appear on your screen.
   • If the username is available, you will be notified that your new profile has been saved.

Tips

• On the "Edit Profile" page you can also change your website, biography and email address. If you want to change your account information without changing your username, you can do so on this page.

Warnings

• After changing your username, the tags and comments with your old username will no longer automatically link to your profile.
