You have an iTunes gift card in your hand that you found in your room and you immediately think of all the songs you can buy. But have you used the card yet? In theory, iTunes cards don't have a balance to check. Once the card has been redeemed, the full value will be added to your Apple account. Check the balance on your account to know if you have already used the card or not. Otherwise, redeeming the card is the only way to know.

Method 1 of 2: Verify by redeeming the card

1. Open iTunes. Navigate to iTunes by locating the application on your device or the program on your computer. Click or press the icon or file to start it. You can also do this in the iBooks Store or App Store.
2. Navigate to the iTunes store. On a computer, the "Store" button is at the top of the screen below the task bars. On an iOS device, you need to press the "Featured" button at the bottom of the screen.
3. Click on Redeem. On a computer, you must click on the "Account" button at the top of the screen. Navigate to the drop-down menu. Click the word "Redeem" at the bottom of the menu. On iOS, you need to scroll to the very bottom of the screen and press the "Redeem" button.
   • On Android, press the menu icon at the top left of the screen. This resembles a square with three horizontal lines. In the drop-down menu, press "Redeem".
4. Log in to your Apple account. In order to redeem the card and add its value to an account, you must sign up. After clicking "Redeem", a login field will appear. Enter your Apple ID and password or create an account if you don't already have one.
5. Enter the code of your card. iTunes will ask you to enter the card's code manually. The code consists of 16 digits. Look at the back of the card and find a number that starts with an "X". Type these numbers. If there is credit on your card, the system will add the value of the card to your account.
   • The program will also give you the option to enter the code with your device's camera. Click on the "Use camera" option to try this.

Method 2 of 2: Check your iTunes account balance

1. Open the iTunes application. Search for the iTunes application on any device. You can also find out your balance by opening iBooks or the App Store and following the same steps.
2. Navigate to the iTunes store. On a computer you have to search at the top of your screen. There will be the word “Store” somewhere. For example, if you are looking at your music library, the headings below the play bar and the navigation bar at the top of the screen will start with "Library" and end with "Store". Click the "Store" button.
   • The "Store" button can be found in any part of your library in the same way. Whether you are watching music, videos, podcasts or other media, it is in the same place.
   • Another way to quickly view your account balance is to click the "Account" button on the navigation bar at the top of the screen. Click "View My Account" in the drop-down menu.
3. Find the balance of your account. On iPhone, iPad and iPod devices, you need to scroll to the bottom of the screen. On a computer, the balance is in the top right corner of the screen.
   • On a mobile device, if you don't see your user ID, press the "Featured" button at the bottom of the screen and then scroll down.
4. Log in to your account. If you are not logged in yet, you have to press the login tab at the bottom of the screen. On a computer, click the "Account" button at the top of the screen and then click "Sign In" in the drop-down menu. Enter your Apple ID and password to create an account.
5. View the balance of your account. Once signed in mobile, the sign in tab will display your Apple ID. Below that you will see a number such as “$ 25.00 credit”. On a computer, this is in the top right corner of the store. Knowing how much money should be in your account will also help you find out whether or not you've redeemed the gift card.

Tips

• If you're trying to check someone else's card, make sure you're signed into their Apple account. Once you redeem the card, the value of the card will be assigned to the active account.
