DRM protected music or an app purchased from the iTunes Store can only be used on an authorized computer, iPod, iPhone or iPad. The music or apps can be transferred to up to five authorized devices. If you have a new computer and you have already reached your limit, you will have to revoke the authorization of one of your devices before you can authorize your new computer. Follow the simple steps in this article.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Method 1: Revoke the authorization of a computer

  1. Open iTunes on the device you want to revoke authorization. If the computer you want to revoke is no longer available, go to method 2.
  2. Click on the "Store" menu. A menu will appear, select "Revoke authorization for this computer".
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password. Click on the button "Withdraw authorization". The authorization of this computer has now been revoked, the total number of devices with authorization has now been reduced.

Method 2 of 2: Method 2: Revoke the permissions of all computers

  1. Open iTunes. It does not matter which of the authorized computers you use for this.
    • This is the only way to revoke authorization from a computer that you no longer have access to.
    • You can only perform this method once every 12 months.
  2. Click on your Apple ID. This can be found in the top left of the iTunes window. If you are not yet logged in, click the "Account" button and enter your details. Click this button again, enter the password and click "View account".
  3. In the "Account Information" window, click "Revoke All Permissions". The permissions of all devices associated with your Apple ID have now been revoked.
  4. Authorize the computers you still use. If you want to use the protected music or apps, you will have to manually authorize all devices one by one. Open iTunes on the computer you want to authorize, click "Store" and select "Authorize This Computer".
