The color gold symbolizes magic, wealth and glamor, which makes it a popular color for painting and crafting. Gold is one of the trickiest colors to mix because it has both warm and cool undertones. Fortunately, if you have some knowledge of mixing colors, you can mix different colors of paint together to make the perfect shade of gold. You can even add pigment and glitter to create shimmery metallic gold.

Part 1 of 2: Mixing a gold base color

1. Apply a coat of paint, then cover the paint with glitter for a textured look. When you have a golden base color, apply the paint to a canvas, a pot or another surface. Then use your hands or a brush to paste gold glitter into the wet paint to get a three-dimensional effect. Let the paint dry and apply lacquer or clear varnish to keep the glitter from falling out.
   • This is an excellent idea for craft projects and paintings as you can apply the glitter wherever you want.

Tips

• Start with small amounts of paint to determine the correct ratio of the colors. Then work with larger quantities in the same proportion.
