Have you found a video on Facebook that you would like to keep? Are you worried that the person who posted the video will delete it before you have a good look at it? Do you want to transfer the video to your phone so that you can watch it at a later time? Then you will have to download the video from Facebook first. Follow the steps in this article to be able to download any video from Facebook, even if it is a private video!

Part 1 of 2: Download Facebook videos

1. Determine if the video is hosted by Facebook. The videos on Facebook are often hosted by other websites, but it can also be hosted by Facebook. Look at what's below the video preview and title. If no host is listed, the video will be hosted by Facebook itself.
2. Right click on the video. Select "Download Linked File" from the menu that appears. You can also load the video and then copy the URL (address) from the browser's address bar.
   • The address will look something like "http://facebook.com/photo.php?v=xxxxxxxxxxxxx" or "http://facebook.com/video/video.php?v=xxxxxxxxxxxxx".
3. Go to a website that allows you to download videos from Facebook. There are several websites online with which you can do this. The sites are paid by advertisements, so there are often fake download buttons on the sites. Just click the download button next to the text field. If necessary, set your browser to block advertisements. These are the more popular sites to download videos from Facebook:

4. Paste the URL in the text field. Click the download button to the right of the text field. Now you will be taken to the download page of the video you want to download.
   • If you get a message that the video is "Private", click on the "Private Video Downloader" and follow the instructions.
5. Right click on the download link. Depending on the video, you can choose "Low quality" and "High quality", choose what you want here. Right-click on the link and select "Save link as ...". Now you can give the file a name of your choice and set the location where you want to save it.
   • The video file will be in .mp4 format, so you may need to download a player that supports this format.

Part 2 of 2: Download private Facebook videos

1. Open Facebook in Google Chrome. You need the "Chrome Web Developer" utility to find the link to the private video. Chrome is a free browser that you can download from Google.
2. Open the link to the video you want to download. The video should open in its own window.
3. Click the Chrome menu button. This button can be found at the top right of the window. It looks like three horizontal lines. Mouse over "Tools" and then select "Developer Tools". A small bar will appear at the bottom of the page.
   • Click the "Undock" button in the lower left corner to open the developer tools in a separate window. This way you can navigate more easily.
4. Click on the "Network" tab. Now a list opens with all items on the current web page.
5. Play the video. For the video to appear, you will need to play the video from start to finish in the Facebook window. When the video is ready, click the "Type" column to sort the list by file type. Scroll down until you find the file labeled "video / mp4".
   • If you are playing the video and you don't see the file, keep the utilities open and refresh the Facebook page with the video. Play it again from start to finish and check the list. You may have to do this several times before the video appears.
6. Right-click on the video address in the "Name" column. Select "Open link in new tab". A new tab with only the video will now open.
7. Right click on the video. Select "Save video as ..." and choose the location where you want to save the video and choose a name.

Tips

• You always need a player that supports the format of the video. If you are having trouble playing certain file types, try VLC media player.
