Footballs are fun to play with, but quite difficult to draw. Traditional football is made up of two shapes, pentagons and hexagons. A pentagon is a figure with five sides, and a hexagon has six sides. The instructions below will help you understand what a soccer ball looks like so it's easier to draw one.

To step

  1. Draw a large circle. This is the shape of the ball.
  2. Draw an oblique pentagon in the circle. This is the reference form. Draw the pentagon about 8 times the size of the circle.
  3. Make sure the lines you are going to draw represent the shape of a 3-dimensional ball. They have to go around the ball at an angle. Don't just go from point A to point B.
  4. Draw lines from each corner of the pentagon by drawing them to the circumference of the circle.
  5. Add "V" shapes from the line out. Make them slightly less than 135 degrees.
  6. Connect the points of the V's to form hexagons. You should now get five hexagons and they should be slightly larger than the first pentagon.
  7. Complete the outer pentagons by drawing lines at an angle of 135 degrees outward from the top two points on each hexagon.
  8. Color the shapes. Use the color you want. Black works best. You are done!

Tips

  • Draw large figures. Small ones will seem unrealistic.
  • You will probably have to try it a few times before it works, as it is not mathematically possible to draw the perfect soccer ball.
  • Drawing the perfect soccer ball can cause a lot of stress. Take it slowly and breathe well.
  • Traditional footballs have black pentagons and white hexagons, but you can do it however you want.
  • First sketch the shapes by hand so that the end result is better and more realistic.

Warnings

  • Do not make the shapes too small. A shape must take up a lot of space on the ball.
  • Don't draw too thick lines in the beginning, just sketch a little when you first try. You can make the lines thicker when you are done
  • Be careful not to stain.
  • If you are done and it is not quite right you can try again!
  • Don't make the pentagon too big, you will get a strange ball.

Necessities

  • Paper
  • Something to draw with (black pen, pencil, marker, etc.)
  • Eraser (for a pencil drawing)
