Getting rid of a plastic sticker seems a lot easier than it actually is. You can just try to peel the sticker off, but this may tear the sticker or leave glue residue on the surface. That's because many major manufacturers use strong glues to help stickers and labels adhere well to plastic surfaces. Whether you can't remove a sticker or just want to get rid of the adhesive residue, there are several remedies such as peanut butter and rubbing alcohol that should do the trick.

Method 1 of 3: Using oil

1. Use a scraper. Better to use a plastic scraper to remove residue. You can buy scrapers that are specially designed to remove stickers at various web shops. Look for a plastic scraper for removing labels and stickers. Stick the end of the scraper under the residue. Then move the scraper back and forth until the residue starts to come off. Continue this until you have mostly or completely removed the residue.

Tips

• Make sure to wear gloves when using chemicals.
• Soak the plastic in a mixture of hot water and liquid dish soap. Scrub the surface with a brush to rinse away the residue of the adhesive you used to remove the sticker, such as WD-40.
• You can also use margarine or hand lotion instead of peanut butter. These agents work just as well to dissolve the glue that sticks to the plastic.

Warnings

• Be careful when using nail polish remover. Some brands contain acetone, which can melt plastic.
• Test the degreaser on an inconspicuous area on the plastic item. Degreasers can melt some plastics.
