Before frantically rubbing the stain with a tissue and then tossing the garment in the washing machine, check out some of the ways you can remove the dreaded makeup stain without washing your clothes. Method 1 of 5: Remove stains with damp cleaning cloths

1. Test the damp cloth on a small area of ​​the fabric to remove any makeup residue. Cleaning wipes contain different chemicals, so watch how the fabric reacts to the cloth and if your clothes are damaged.
   • You can buy moist cleaning wipes from brands such as Dettol and Blue Wonder at the supermarket, chemist and on the internet. You can also buy a stain stick from a brand like Dr. Beckmann.
2. Massage the stain with the damp cloth. Gently rub the stain in circular motions with the damp cloth. Start at the edge of the stain and then work towards the center. Do this for a few minutes or until you notice that most of the makeup has gotten onto the damp cloth.
3. Rinse the area under the cold tap. Hold the stained fabric flat under the tap. Make sure that the water does not flow too strongly from the tap so that it is easier to aim the jet precisely at the stained area.
   • Cold water will help remove the stain.
4. Dry the area with a paper towel. Squeeze the water from the stained area. Lightly pat the area several times with the paper towel to ensure all makeup is removed.

Method 2 of 5: Remove stains with dish soap

1. Blot the stain with a clean tissue to get the excess lipstick, eyeliner, or mascara out of your clothes. This method works well for removing these types of makeup as they usually contain oil. Dishwashing liquid will not damage most fabrics. Grab a tissue, some toilet paper, or a paper towel and gently blot the stain to remove any excess makeup. Do not rub the stain as this may cause it to enlarge.
2. Wet the stain with cold water. You can wet your fingers with some water and then dab the stain lightly.You can also pour half a teaspoon of water on the stain. Do not use hot water as this will allow the fabric to absorb the stain.
3. Put a drop of dish soap on the stain. If you're concerned that your silk or wool garment will react poorly to the detergent, try it on a small area before trying to remove the stain. Gently spread the detergent with your index finger so that it covers the entire stain. You only need to apply a thin layer of dish soap to the stain. Choose a strong degreasing detergent at the supermarket.
4. Rub the detergent into the stain. Use a cloth cloth to gently massage the detergent into the stain. Start at the outer edge and then work your way inward. Rub the detergent into the stain in circular motions. It is best to use a small terry cloth for this step. The loops of the fabric can help remove the makeup from the fabric. You can use a regular small towel if you don't have a terry cloth.
   • For a stubborn stain, use an old toothbrush instead of a cloth to massage the detergent into the stain.
5. Allow the detergent to soak into the fabric for 10 to 15 minutes. This allows the detergent to remove the stain without washing. Do not wait for the detergent to dry completely.
6. Pat the area dry with a dry towel. Do not rub the stain, but pat the area with a towel. The towel thus absorbs the detergent and make-up. Rubbing can create friction, leaving more make-up and fibers from the towel.
7. Repeat process if necessary. Depending on how old the stain is, you may have to repeat these steps until most of the makeup stain is removed from the garment. The bigger the stain, the longer it can last.

Method 3 of 5: Remove stains with hairspray

1. Spray hairspray on a small area on your clothes to remove liquid foundation, tanning spray, and liquid lipstick. Check for discoloration or damage to the fabric. If everything is okay, take the hairspray and spray the stain with it. Hairspray with a strong hold is ideal because the chemicals can adhere well to the make-up.
   • The sooner you treat the makeup stain, the more likely you are to be able to remove it completely.
   • Be careful when using hairspray on delicate fabrics like lace and silk. You may not need to apply multiple coats for the hairspray to set.
2. Let the hairspray harden. After a few minutes, the hairspray should have hardened the stain and fabric. If not, spray again and wait a few more minutes.
3. Moisten a paper towel. Get a clean paper towel and run it under cold water. The colder the water, the easier it will be to remove the stain. Wring out the excess water from the paper towel to avoid soaking the fabric. The paper towel should feel cold to the touch, but not soaking wet.
4. Wipe away the stain. Use the wet paper towel to blot the hairspray from your clothes. The make-up should be removed along with the hairspray.
   • Gently push the stain with the paper towel and lift to see how much makeup has been removed. Continue until you don't see any makeup on your clothes.
   • Use a sturdy, two-ply paper towel to reduce the likelihood of paper towels remaining on your clothes.

Method 4 of 5: Remove stains with ice cubes

1. Scrape off any residue of liquid foundation, tanning spray or concealer with a plastic spoon or knife. Before the make-up dries in the fabric, scrape off the top layer of make-up with a plastic spoon or knife. These types of make-up do not dry directly on your clothes, which makes them easier to remove. The flexibility of the cutlery makes it easier to scrape off the excess make-up. Discard the spoon or knife when you are done.
2. Rub the stain with an ice cube. Push the ice cube into the stain and rub it in circular motions. The ice will begin to break down the makeup that has set into the fabric. Keep rubbing the stain with the ice cube until you can see the makeup is out.
   • It is a good idea to hold the ice cube with a paper towel to protect your fingers from the cold and prevent the ice cube from melting as quickly.
   • You can use ice cubes on all fabrics. It's just water.
3. Dry the fabric with a paper towel. Lightly pat the wet, stained area with a paper towel until most of the makeup is removed. Then squeeze the excess water from the fabric using the kitchen paper. If you still see small amounts of make-up on the area in question, treat the area again with a new ice cube. Repeat the process until the fabric is clean.

Method 5 of 5: Remove stains with nylon tights

1. Find old tights to remove powder makeup like foundation, blusher, and eyeshadow. Choose nylon tights that you don't mind getting dirty. Most tights are made from nylon and microfibre, followed by cotton and microfibre tights. Check the label on your tights. Chances are you have a lot of nylon tights.
   • Nylon tights will not damage your clothes. You can wash the tights and it will be as good as new again.
2. Remove the excess makeup from your clothes. Blow on the stain to remove the excess powder on top of the fabric. You can blow on the stain yourself or use a hair dryer.
   • Make sure to set the hair dryer to the coldest setting. Using heat will only set the makeup into the fabric, which is not what you want.
   • Keep the garment taut and horizontal in front of you. Blow the makeup away from you so you don't get powder on your clothes.
3. Smooth the stain with the tights. Grab a portion of the tights with one hand and gently brush over the stain. Ironing will allow you to remove any powder residue. Continue to iron until the make-up is gone.

• You can remove stains from your clothes a lot more easily if you take them off before using any of these methods.
• You can try removing stains caused by lipstick and liquid foundation with rubbing alcohol and baby wipes.
