Buns for men are a great way to style long hair. If you want to make a great bun as a man, there are several styles you can try, depending on how you want to look. If you want an elegant or formal look, go for a full bun. If the sides and back of your head are trimmed short, a "top bun" is more suitable. There is even a bun that men can wear for everyday casual situations. To make a bun for men, you must first comb your hair, then pull it back and then secure it with an elastic or hair band.

To step

Method 1 of 4: Make a quick and messy bun

  1. Run your fingers through your hair and fold it together on the back of your head. Grab as much hair as possible from the front and on top of your head. Pull your hair back and gather it under the crown of your head.
    • With this style you can let the hair hang down the back of your head or you can tie it up in the bun.
  2. Grow your hair to at least 22-40 cm. A full-fledged bun for men uses all the hair on your head and needs more hair than the other styles. If you don't have that long hair, choose a different style. A full bun is best suited for formal occasions.
  3. Pull your hair back and push it towards the crown of your head. The crown of your head is the spot slightly above the meeting point of the back and top of your head. You usually make a bun between the top of your head and the center of the back of your head. Run your fingers through your hair and bring all of your hair to the area where you want the bun. This also includes all the hair on the back and sides of your head.
    • Don't pull your hair back too tight or it could hurt.
    • If you don't want a messy bun, run a comb through your hair before styling.
  4. Wrap a few hairs around the elastic to hide it. This gives your bun an even more sophisticated look, but is not always necessary. Keep a few strands of hair aside when you initially tie the bun and wrap those hair strands around the hair tie. Secure the extra hair part by pulling it through the tightened hair band.
    • If your hair is too short or too straight to stay around the bun and headband, you can use a strong hairspray or pomade to hold your hair in place.

Method 3 of 4: Make a "top bun"

  1. Gather your hair on the top of your head. A "top bun" looks best on styles that are short on the sides and back and longer on top. Run your fingers through your hair. Gather the hair on top of your head and grab it.
    • The top bun should be towards the center and on top of your head.
    • Your hair should be 15-18 cm in length to make this bun.
  2. Pull the hair through a hair tie. Use a hair elastic and pull the hair through. The knot should be snug against your head.
  3. Wash and condition your hair. A bun for men looks best when your hair is clean. Wash your hair as you normally would and then apply conditioner. This makes your hair healthier and prevents dryness.
    • Greasy and dirty hair will make a bun look unattractive.
    • If you have oily hair, you may need to wash and condition it daily.
    • Shampooing your hair more than three times a week can cause it to dry out if you have naturally dry hair anyway.
  4. Comb or brush your hair after you shower. Work all tangles out of your hair so that it is as smooth as possible. If you get the knots out of your hair first, your bun will look tighter and neater.
  5. Dry your hair with a towel or let it air dry. Pat your hair dry with a towel instead of rubbing it dry. Rubbing too much with a towel can make hair frizzy.
  6. Apply a leave-in conditioner or oil to your hair. Put a small dollop of leave-in conditioner or a little hair oil in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together and rub the moisturizer into your hair from root to tip.
    • If your leave-in conditioner is a spray, spray it into your hair.
