If you want to light a candle, you can of course use a match or a lighter. However, to light the candle properly, you may need to hold the candle at an angle or use a tool with a longer end. Also read tips for lighting your candle in such a way that it burns more evenly.

1. Place your candle in a good place. You should place your candle on a heat-resistant surface, such as stone. This way you don't run the risk of the surface catching fire. Also make sure that the candle is in a place where there is no draft. Drafts can blow the flame outside the candle, causing a fire.
   • It's also a good idea to remove any flammable items near the candle, such as paper, fabrics, and dried flowers.
   • Make sure the candle is at least 12 inches away from your curtains.
2. Make sure your candle is in a good place. Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface so that the area does not catch fire. Also, remove any flammable items, such as paper, near the candle.
   • Also, make sure the candle is away from curtains or anything else that could blow into the candle.
   • Also feel if there is a draft, because a draft can blow the flame towards something flammable.
3. Do not cut the wick the first time. Some people say that a candle burns unevenly if you cut the wick the first time you light it. A larger flame can help melt the wax properly. However, always keep a close eye on the burning candle.
4. Do not let the candle burn in quick succession. To prevent only the middle part of the candle from melting after you light the candle for the first time, you should only let the candle burn for long periods at a time. If you only let the candle burn for a short time, the wax will not melt all the way to the edges and that is what you do not want.
5. Use foil. Take a piece of foil, fold it several times and wrap it around the top part of the candle. Fold it a little bit around the top part of the candle, creating a small tab.
   • You can do this while the candle is burning, but the top part will be warm. Otherwise, only light the candle after you have applied the piece of foil.
   • This trick will help melt the wax more evenly. You can buy special candle aids that will allow you to do this too.

Tips

• You can also use an incense stick to light candles. You must first light the incense stick.

Warnings

• Keep matches and candles out of the reach of children.
• Be careful with hair, scarves and ties. Make sure they don't get caught in the flame of the candle.
• If you burn your finger, find out how to treat a burn.
• Never leave a lit candle unattended. A fire can start within seconds.
