If you accidentally wash a pen, the ink may leak and stain your tumble dryer. If you don't remove this stain, the ink can then end up on the next load of laundry. That's why it's important to deal with the stain right away. Below are some methods you can try to get rid of the stain completely. (Note that the methods are in ascending order - if the first method doesn't work, continue with the next until the stain is gone.)

To step

  1. Unplug the dryer. Do this for every method you use. This is very important to avoid electric shock.

Method 1 of 4: Dish soap

  1. In a small bowl, mix half a teaspoon of liquid dish soap with a small amount of warm water to make a cleaning solution.
  2. Stir the mixture until a lot of foam forms.
  3. Dip a cloth in the soapy water. Wring out the cloth so that it is not too wet. Make sure the cloth is only damp.
  4. Scrub the ink stain with the cloth with soapy water. Continue doing this until you have completely removed the stain. You may have to repeat this step very often if it is a stubborn ink stain.
  5. Wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove the soap residue. If you were unable to remove the ink stain, continue with the following steps.

Method 2 of 4: Alcohol

  1. Scrub the ink stain with an alcohol-dampened cloth. Keep pouring alcohol on the cloth and scrubbing until the ink stain is gone. If necessary, grab a clean cloth in between.
  2. Wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove the alcohol residue.

Method 3 of 4: Bleach and water

  1. In a bucket, mix 1 part bleach with 2 parts water. Make sure to put on gloves when working with bleach.
  2. Soak some old white towels in the bleach mixture.
  3. Wring out the towels to stop dripping and put them in the dryer.
  4. Let the dryer run a full drying cycle. Repeat the process until the ink stain is completely gone.
  5. Put some old rags in the dryer and let the dryer run a full wash cycle. If there are still ink residues in the drum, they will end up on the cloths.
  6. Wipe the tumble dryer with a damp cloth to remove the bleach residue. Make sure to remove all bleach residue before using the dryer to dry clothes again.

Method 4 of 4: Nail polish remover

  1. Use nail polish remover with acetone in it. Put a little on a miracle sponge.
  2. When removing the ink, turn the miracle sponge over and wipe the stain with a clean part of the sponge. You will probably need several magic sponges to get rid of the stain completely.
    • Do not get acetone on the plastic parts of the dryer.
    • Wear gloves that are resistant to chemical solvents.
    • Open windows and doors and provide good ventilation so that you do not inhale the fumes. With a good breathing mask you prevent inhaling chemical fumes.
    • Do not use this method near open flames or sparks. Acetone is very flammable.
    • Make sure the room is well ventilated, for example by turning on a fan and opening a window.
  3. When the product has dried, throw some old rags in the dryer to make sure the drum is completely clean. Run the dryer on a normal wash cycle and check the cloths. When they are clean you can use the dryer again. If there is ink on the cloths, clean the dryer again.

Tips

  • You can also use acetone or hairspray instead of alcohol.
