iPods are known to just work all the time, but a problem can still arise. An app may not work, or the iPod may stop responding. The easiest way is to restart the iPod. Read this article to learn how.

Method 1 of 2: Restart an iPod that is still responding

1. Press the on / off button. This button is located on top of the iPod. A slider will appear on the screen saying "Shut down". Only now let go of the on / off button.
2. Use your finger to move the slider to the right. Now the iPod will shut down. Do not press any other buttons while the iPod is shutting down.
3. Press the power button again to turn on the iPod. The iPod should work without any problems after starting up.

Method 2 of 2: Restart an iPod that is unresponsive

1. Press and hold the on / off button and the home button. The home button is the button with the square below the screen. Hold down both buttons for 10 seconds. The Apple logo will appear when the iPod restarts.
2. Release the buttons after you see the logo. The iPod will try to restart now. Be patient; if the iPod was frozen, it may take up to a minute to restore the iPod.
   • If the iPod does not turn on or a red battery appears: Connect the iPod to the charger.
3. Repair your iPod. If the iPod still does not respond to anything, you can try to restore the iPod with iTunes. You erase the iPod with this, but you can reload your last backup if necessary.
   • Connect the iPod to your computer and run iTunes.
   • Select your iPod from the Devices tab menu. If your iPod doesn't show up, you will need to put the iPod into DFU mode.
   • Click the Restore button in the Summary window. This will reset your iPod back to factory settings. This should fix the problem and make the iPod work properly again.
   • Place a backup on the iPod. Once the iPod Touch has been reset, you can restore your data and settings with a backup. Choose the backup you want in iTunes or iCloud.
4. Contact Apple. If the device still doesn't work properly or the problems return, contact Apple and see if you still have warranty.
