This article will show you how to create a group chat on Viber. Viber uses an internet connection instead of normal mobile networks to send messages and calls. This means you can send an unlimited number of messages and call someone for an unlimited number of minutes without having to pay network costs. With Viber you can also communicate with several people at the same time in the same chat window. You can also create a public group chat called Community.

Method 1 of 2: Create a group chat

1. Open Viber. This is a purple icon with the image of a telephone in a speech bubble. Tap the icon on your phone's application screen to open Viber.
2. Press the tab Chats. It's in the bottom right corner of the screen. It has an icon that resembles a purple speech bubble. This will bring up your list of chats.
3. Tap the New chat icon. On Android, this is the purple button with a speech bubble in the center. On iPhone and iPad, this is the pencil and paper icon in the top right corner.
   • To convert an existing chat to a group chat, press the chat in the chat menu, then the three-dot icon ('⋮') in the top right corner of Android, or the contact's name at the top of iPhone and iPad . Then press "Create a group chat with [current contact]".
4. Press New group. This is the first option in the "New Chat" menu. This will display your contact list.
5. Select the people you want to add to the group chat. In your "Contact List", press the names of the people you want to add to select them.
   • Anyone can add a new participant to a group chat on Viber. The maximum number of participants is 250.
6. Press Ready to proceed to. This should be in the top left corner of the screen. A new chat window will open.
7. Start the chat. Type your message and press the paper airplane icon on the right to send it. Wait for the other members of the group chat to respond.
8. Press ⋮ or by the name of the chat. If you're using a smartphone with Android, tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner. If you are using an iPhone or iPad, press the name of the chat at the top of the chat. This will display an expansion menu.
9. Press Chat information. This is in the drop-down menu when you press the three-dot icon or the name of the chat at the top of the screen.
   • On iPhone and iPad this is called "Chat Information & Settings".
10. Press Add participants. This will display your contact list.
11. Tap on the contacts you want to add. This allows you to add more participants to the group chat.
12. Press Ready or Open Viber. This is a purple icon with the image of a telephone in a speech bubble. Tap the icon on your phone's application screen to open Viber.
13. Press the tab Chats. It's in the bottom right corner of the screen. It has an icon that resembles a purple speech bubble. This will bring up your list of chats.
14. Tap the New chat icon. On Android, this is the purple button with a speech bubble in the center. On iPhone and iPad, this is the pencil and paper icon in the top right corner.
15. Press New community. This is the second option in the New Chat menu.
16. Press Start a community. This is the purple button at the bottom of the screen.
    • When prompted to add a name to your account, press "Add" in the popup and then type a name for your account.
17. Type a name for your community. Press the line that says "Add a name" and then type a name for your community.
18. Press the icon that resembles a camera (optional). Here you can add a profile picture for your group.
19. Press Take a new photo or Select photo from gallery. If you want to take a photo with your camera, press "Take Photo". If you want to choose a photo, press "Select photo from gallery".
20. Take or select a photo. If you want to take a photo, use the camera app to take a photo. If you want to select a photo, press the photo you want to select and then press "Save" or "Done" on iPhone.
21. Add a description. Press the line that says "Add a description for your community" and then type a brief description of what your community is about.
22. Press Save or Tap on the contacts you want to add. You can press as many contacts as you want in your contact list to add.
23. Press Share link. This is at the top of the "Add Members" menu. It is next to the light blue icon that resembles a chain. Here you can get a link to share so you can invite people to your community.
24. Press Copy link. This is next to the icon that resembles a chain. This will copy your community link to your clipboard.
25. Paste the link in an invitation message. To invite people, you need to paste the community link in an email, text message or social media post. Anyone with a Viber account can click the link and join your community. There is no limit to the number of people who can join a community.
    • Other features of a community include assigned administrators, the ability to respond to someone else who posts, members can view their full chat history, and important messages can be pinned to the top of the chat.

Tips

• Although you can send normal calls and text messages in Viber, you can only add participants to a group chat who are also using Viber or who have a Viber account.
• You can use a group chat like a normal chat window. You can send files and voice recordings, but you can also use emoticons and stickers.
