This wikiHow teaches you how to mute a WhatsApp group chat and prevent group notifications from appearing on your home screen on Android.

To step

1. Open WhatsApp Messenger. The WhatsApp icon looks like a green speech bubble with a white phone in it.
2. Tap the CALLS tab. If WhatsApp opens on another page, go back and open your CALL tab. It shows a list of all your personal and group chat conversations.
3. Tap a group chat. This will open the conversation in full screen.
4. Tap the three vertical dots icon. This is your chat menu button in the top right corner of your screen. It opens a drop-down menu with options to manage the group chat.
5. Select Mute from the menu. A popup window will open to set your mute options. If you mute, the chime and vibration are deactivated when someone sends a message to the group.
6. Select the duration for which you want to mute the group. You can choose between 8 o'clock, 1 week, and 1 year.
7. Deselect the Show notifications box. This option is at the bottom of the pop-up window below the option 1 year. This will prevent notifications from popping up on your device's home screen or in your notification box when someone in the group posts.
8. Tap OK. This will confirm your settings and mute the group for the duration you selected.
