Wouldn't it be cool if you had that blue cloud with a white check in it on your Twitter profile? Since July 2016, you no longer have to wait for Twitter to choose you to become a verified user. You can submit a request to have your account verified. Submitting a verification request doesn't guarantee you'll get that coveted check now, but you can increase your chances of verification by actively using Twitter and filling out a verification form.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Submit a request

1. Go to it request form for verification. You must be logged in to your Twitter account to continue.
2. Confirm the username you would like verified. You will automatically be asked to submit a request for the account you are logged in with. Log in to a different account if the account displayed is not the one you want to request verification for. Click "Next" when you are done.
   • If you are requesting verification for a company or organization, please tick the box in the lower left corner of the screen to indicate this.
3. Fill in any missing information. If your Twitter account is missing some of the information required to submit a request, you will be notified on the next page. Add this information to your Twitter account and then go back to the page to continue.

4. Enter websites as references. Provide links to 2 to 5 websites that can be used to verify your account.
   • Provide links to newspaper articles or frequently visited websites that mention you, or other evidence showing your public influence.
   • Your official website is already listed on your Twitter profile, so you don't need to enter it again.
5. Explain why your account needs to be verified. Briefly describe why your account needs to be verified in the box below.
   • As an individual you have to show what your influence is. Describe the extent of your public influence and name one or two major ways in which you have changed your field.
   • As a company or organization, you must describe your mission and the successes you have achieved in pursuing it.
6. Click on the "Next" button. This is the blue button at the bottom of the screen. You will be presented with a page asking you to confirm your request.
7. Click on "Send". Your request will now be sent and assessed. When a decision has been made, you will be informed by e-mail.
8. Wait for the Twitter account @Verified contact you and give you instructions on how to verify your account. If Twitter decides you are eligible for a verified account, you will be notified by private message. Click on the link in the private message to complete the process.
   • Don't worry if your request is denied. You can resubmit your request after 30 days.
9. Complete the verification process. This last part of the process consists of 3 steps: (1) Learn how to Tweet effectively, (2) Connect with other interesting Twitter users and (3) Protect your account.

   • Bee Connect with other interesting Twitter users you will be able to follow other verified accounts. Twitter is believed to give you more legitimacy as a verified user.
   • Bee Protect your account you will be asked to provide a phone number that Twitter can call if there are problems with your account. Your account will be verified when you have completed this step.
10. Do not change your account information. Once you have received a verification badge, it is important not to change your account information. If you change things like your profile picture, Twitter may remove the badge and force you to contact them again.

Part 2 of 2: Increasing your chances of verification

1. Make sure you are as famous as possible. The most common reasons for verification - whether you are submitting a request yourself or selected by Twitter's verification team - include being a highly identifiable and well-known person (such as musicians, actors, athletes, artists, government officials, government agencies, etc. ) or that your name and identity are being parodied or misused on different Twitter accounts, creating confusion.
   • Twitter will not verify your account based on the number of followers you have. People say the following about this: "The number of followers is not taken into account when determining whether an account meets our verification criteria". The number of tweets you post is also irrelevant.

2. Make sure you are eligible for verification. There are a number of requirements that you must meet in order to go through the full verification process. Before submitting a request, make sure you have the following things:
   • A verified phone number
   • A confirmed email address
   • A bio
   • A profile picture
   • A header photo
   • A date of birth (for accounts not used by companies, brands or organizations)
   • A website
   • Tweets in the privacy settings set as public
3. Do some branding. Most of the Twitter accounts that are verified are easily identifiable on all communication channels of the site. To make your brand recognizable, do the following:
   • For individuals: use your real name as Twitter name.
   • For organizations and companies: choose a Twitter name that makes it clear which company or organization it concerns.
   • Choose a good quality profile photo that you put on yourself, or that suits your company or brand.
   • Use the same email address you use for business inquiries and requests, provided you have such an email address.
   • Post a link to your Twitter profile on your official website. Include the address of your website on your Twitter profile. It is extremely important that you to links your Twitter account, because adding links from websites to your Twitter profile does not prove your account is genuine.
   • Twitter recommends posting a "Follow" button on your official website or blog. This ensures that your readers can easily find your real account.
   • Also post a link to your Twitter profile on other social profiles, such as your Facebook and LinkedIn profile. All these links help to prove that you are who you say you are.
4. Be an exemplary Twitter user. According to Twitter, the number of tweets a user posts is not taken into account when deciding whether or not to verify an account, but being an active and engaged user of Twitter is still very important to the verification process. Post tweets regularly, be interesting and stick to the topic, use hashtags, ask and answer questions to your followers, never be a troll, and follow other verified users.

5. Hire an agency. Most celebrities don't request to get a verified account themselves, but have an agency do it. By hiring an agency or an intermediary you get more status as a known person, especially if you manage to find an agency that already has contacts on Twitter.

6. Buy advertising space. Twitter does not make official statements about this, but several companies with a verified Twitter account have indicated that spending about 5000 euros per month on advertising space also ensures that an account is and remains verified.
7. Get a job with a prominent company. Some prominent companies (such as BuzzFeed) have an agreement with Twitter so that all senior employees automatically receive a verified Twitter account. This may not be the easiest way, but it is something to consider.

Tips

• If you don't qualify for a verified account, the best way to prove you really are who you say you are is to post a link to your Twitter account on an official website.
• We all want a verification badge, but let's face it, Twitter won't give everyone such a badge. So don't bother them with requests unless you are absolutely sure that you really qualify.

Warnings

• Having a verified Twitter account does not stop others from creating fake accounts that impersonate or parody you.
• Do not include a fake verification badge at the end of your Twitter name. You may think this looks cool yourself, but Twitter will likely delete your account.
• After your account has been verified, you may find that some of your followers have been removed.
