Loosening a bra is sometimes like rock climbing - you have to deal with strings, clasps, pulling, and scrambling. Where to squeeze, where to pull, the list of questions seems endless - whether it's someone else's bra or your own. Don't worry, once you've finished this article you'll be a pro at loosening bras.

To step

Method 1 of 5: The base of the bra

  1. Understand how the closing mechanism works. A typical bra has two horizontal straps that attach at the back. A strap has several eyes. The other strap has a pair of hooks that you can attach to the eyelets. To loosen a bra, squeeze both sides and slide the hooks out of the eyelets.
    • Sometimes you can come across a bra that has only one hook and one eyelet, or a bra with five eyelets and five hooks. Although bras with two or three hooks and eyelets are the most common, all of these bras are detached in the same way.
  2. Find the closure. It should be between the two cups. These closures are usually made of plastic or metal; one side usually fits in the other. When the clasp is flat, it will click into place.
  3. Pull one side of the clasp up and the other side down. Which way to go up or down depends on the bra, so you will have to see for yourself what you are dealing with. If you feel resistance when you pull up on one side, try it on the other. The two pieces should separate so that the bra can be taken off.

Tips

  • Don't be afraid to ask the woman whose bra you are taking off for help. Usually she won't have a problem with that. Plus, loosening the bra together, or getting some tips, will be a lot more fun than that awkwardly quiet fuss.
