Baby showers should be memorable, elegant and most of all, fun! Invite your friends and family to meet your new baby and offer them baby-style food and decorations. This article outlines steps to organize a beautiful baby shower.

To step

Method 1 of 4: The guests and invitations

  1. Make the guest list. Who comes to the baby shower? Invite your family, best friends, acquaintances, colleagues, etc. Once you have the final number, you will be able to determine how many invitations to purchase, the amount of food you will need, and which space will be large enough to accommodate everyone.
    • If you don't already have the guests' addresses, send them an email to ask.
    • If you are not sure who exactly should be invited, ask your mother or someone else who is knowledgeable about traditional customs.
  2. Choose the invitations. There are many great invitation ideas, from cards where you just have to fill in the blanks, tickets bought at the store, to personalized invitations made on the computer. If you have the budget, sending a mini baby bottle with the party's information in it is unique and cute. You can also use plain white boxes and decorate them as baby blocks, with the information inside. Anything you can think of is possible!
    • You don't have to send invitations in the mail, web invites work just as well and they come in many fun designs.
    • Make your own invitations by purchasing rose and blue card stock on which to print or write the information yourself. Add pink and blue confetti to the envelope.
  3. Add the necessary information. Make it clear that the event is a baby shower and make sure to include the name of the person for whom the baby shower will be held. In addition to this essential information, include the following information:
    • The date of the baby shower
    • The place where it is held
    • The start and end time
    • RSVP information or information about whether or not people are coming, so you know who is coming. Give a date on which you want to know if people can come or not.
  4. Send the invitations at least 3 weeks in advance. Give people enough time to put it on their calendar and plan ahead. You will likely start receiving RSVPs a few days after sending the invitations.

Method 2 of 4: Decorations

  1. Select a theme for the baby shower. Choose a character from a fairytale, children's book or cartoon. You can also choose baby animals, flowers, butterflies or another fun, light theme. Find a party supply store near you or check the internet for deals on plates, tablecloths, napkins, banners, balloons, party supplies and so on that match your theme or colors. Decorated plates and napkins look very cute on the treat table.
    • Combining the theme with the nursery is a special thought that many mothers enjoy.
    • If the sex of the baby is unprecedented, you can do a simple rose and blue theme.
  2. Make your own decorations. Garlands and helium balloons around the room and at the treats and gift tables are very festive and cheap to make yourself. Baby toys such as rubber ducks, stuffed animals or blocks are great decorative accents to place around the room. Welcome the guests in a special way with a baby shower banner and balloons at the entrance. If you have a Publisher program on your computer, you can probably make your own banner.
    • Euroland or 1 Euro stores are excellent places to get cheap items.
    • You may also want to look into hiring a stork for your yard to announce the birth of your baby.
    • Another idea for adding a personal touch to the baby shower is to put a framed photo of the parents with their new baby on the table of presents.
    • Make sure that the baby has a special place next to the gift table and decorate this place with a unique balloon with his / her name on it.
  3. Create an unforgettable decoration piece for your treat or gift table. Start with a cheap basket in natural white or another color that matches the baby shower colors. Place a stuffed animal, doll or other item that matches the theme of the baby shower in the basket, then place a feeding bottle or rattle in front of the animal or doll. Attach a decorative bow to the basket handle and tie 4-5 pastel colored helium balloons to the top of the handle. Place the decoration piece in the center of the treat table or punch table and sprinkle some baby shower confetti around it.
    • You can give the decoration piece a special place in the baby room after the baby shower.
    • Diaper cakes are also very fun and functional decoration pieces, as well as nice baby gifts. You can make one yourself or find a company that makes diaper cakes to match the theme of your baby shower.
    • A simple fresh flower arrangement in the colors of the baby shower also makes an elegant and appropriate decoration piece.

Method 3 of 4: Eat and drink

  1. Determine the menu. Prepare a variety of snacks and desserts for your menu. You can just have cake and punch or you can have a more extensive party menu. If your baby shower falls at lunch or dinner, you may want to offer a more substantial menu than just desserts.
    • Snacks are easy to prepare and the choice of snacks is endless. Sausage rolls, miniature ham rolls, mini quiches, various small meat and cheese sandwiches, or croissants with chicken / egg salad, are always great options.
    • Prepare either a fresh fruit or vegetable dish with a delicious dipping sauce. Strawberries and grapes are a good choice because they don't need to be cut.
    • You can expand your baby shower menu with small snacks such as chips with a dip, snack mix, various cubes of cheese and crackers, nuts, mints or anything else you can think of that your guests will like. If you have a special dish or dessert, make it for the baby shower.
  2. Prepare fruit punch and drinks. Make your own punch with sorbet and Ginger ale or buy a prepared ice cream punch from your supermarket and just add ginger ale to it. Float a few rubber ducks in the punch bowl for a fun accent! Serve the punch in a wine glass for a more elegant feel. You will likely want to have a number of chilled bottles of water, coffee, or diet drinks available for guests who prefer this.
  3. Buy or make a cake. A cake should not be missing from a baby shower. Ordering a cake specifically for a group of people can be expensive, so bake your own cake or cupcakes from a cake or cupcake mix and canned whipped cream, then decorate them with simple colored sprinkles or decorative cupcakes on sticks for a less expensive option.
    • Display your decorated cupcakes on a base cake plate covered with colored sprinkles and place a cute figurine or rubber duck in the center.
    • A dessert sampler is a good alternative to your standard cake, especially if it is for a small number of guests. These are available in most bakeries.

Method 4 of 4: Games

  1. Schedule a variety of games. Games are a great way to get guests involved and break the ice. A mix of active and written games is good. You can create your own word games as Decode the baby names, Match the baby names with the right mommy or a game where you have to make as many words as possible in the name of the mom and dad. Don't forget to provide the guests with pens or pencils for making the word games. Prizes can be inexpensive items such as candles, scented lotions, candy boxes, fun stationery, gift cards, or lottery tickets.
    • Some are more active games Baby Hot Potato where you pass a baby doll in a circle while you play lullaby. The person holding the baby doll when the music stops is out. Keep going until one person remains.
    • Baby bingo is fun and can be found at most party stores, or you can be creative and make your own cards with a computer. Baby bingo is played like regular bingo, except that the numbers are replaced with baby related words.
    • In front of To change diapers you only need a diaper, baby doll, safety pins and a blindfold.
    • Baby Bottle Drink-off is a hilarious game. Put about 1 ounce of punch, water or other drink in feeding bottles and have baby shower participants race to finish their feeding bottle. The person who drinks everything first is the winner.
    • Another fun game that will be unforgettable is Baby Sculptures. Give each participant a baby related item, such as a feeding bottle, pacifier, the first tooth, or some other small item and let them craft it in Play-Doh. The person who guesses the most correct sculptures is won.
  2. Provide thanks. Have a few thank-yous for those in attendance to take home. Chocolate Hershey's kisses or pastel candies wrapped in colorful tulle and tied with a ribbon with a personalized label make for a classic and inexpensive thank you gift. Design and print your own labels using a computer.
    • A really fun and original thank you note that doubles as a game, are scratch cards with the baby's name printed on it and the date of the baby shower. Each person gets a ticket to scratch off with one scratch ticket as the winner. Guests who do not win will still have a personalized memento of the baby shower.

Tips

  • Prepare yourself well. Lists are a lifesaver! List the things that need to be done and mark them when they are completed. If the baby shower is in a different place from your home, make a list of EVERY thing you should bring and mark it on your list when you put it in your car. Put everything you need on your list - from foodstuffs to serving spoons, from prizes to pencils for the games! This way you will not forget anything in the hustle and bustle of the baby shower moment.
  • Another great idea to help you as parents is to invite guests to bring a pair of diapers to include in a drawing. Make sure to ask for multiple sizes so you don't just have nappies for a newborn.
  • Don't forget to designate a gift table. Cover it with a simple tablecloth and place a small balloon bouquet at the back of the table. To make it special, place a framed photo of the parents with their new baby on the table.
  • Use disposable cups, plates, cutlery and paper napkins for a quick clean up. Choose decorative colors and designs that go well with the theme you have chosen for your baby shower.
  • Maybe you want to present a corsage to the grandmother (s). Another great idea to give her is a band or headgear with "I love grandma" on it that she can wear. Or any other granny item / pack you can find in most baby stores. Make sure to take lots of pictures when she's wearing it.
  • Have someone write down the name of the person who gave the gift when it is opened. When opening the gifts, cards can be easily separated from their gifts and it is very difficult to remember who gave what.
  • If you are short on time, consider skipping the games. Feed the baby first while the others are eating. As a mom, you open every gift, thank the person, and let them choose a thank you note. This can quickly help people know who is who and will cut down on time if that's an issue.
  • Break the ice by going around the room and welcoming everyone.
  • Baby showers organized at home are always a joy. However, if money isn't an issue (or if there will be more people in attendance than your home can comfortably accommodate), rent a clubhouse in an apartment complex or community center, or even an event venue in a hotel or restaurant. (You can have better luck mentioning that you previously had a party then have one baby shower. Event venue coordinators know that baby showers can take a long time due to the opening of the gifts and may therefore decline because it causes problems with the party afterward.)
  • Background music on a baby shower is always fun. Have a CD of traditional lullabies or contemporary lullabies and play it softly during the baby shower. It sets a nice tone at the party.
