In this article, you can read how you too can create an email account in Yahoo from scratch. This can be done from a PC as well as on a smartphone or tablet.

To step

Method 1 of 2: On a PC

1. Open Yahoo. Go to https://www.yahoo.com/ in your browser. This will open the main Yahoo page.
2. click on Sign Up. This option is in the far right corner of the page, to the left of the bell.
3. click on Sign Up. This link is next to the text "No account yet?" At the bottom right of the page.
4. Enter the requested information. You will need to enter the following information:
   • First Name
   • Last name
   • Email address - The email address you want to use for Yahoo. If the email address you chose is already in use, you will have to type in a different address.
   • password
   • Mobile phone number - You cannot create a Yahoo account without a mobile phone number.
   • Date of birth (month, day and year)
   • If you want, you can also enter your gender in the "Gender" field.
5. click on Get on. It's a blue button at the bottom of the page.
   • If you have not completed one or more of the mandatory fields, or if the username you have chosen is not available, you will not be able to continue. You will not be able to continue until you have completed all required fields and / or replaced your username with a name that is not yet in use.
6. click on Send me an account code by text message. This blue button is in the middle of the page. This instructs Yahoo to send a code to the mobile number you typed earlier.
   • You can also press Call me with an account code to tell Yahoo to call you and cancel the code for you.
7. Write down the control code. On your phone, open the messaging app, see if you have received a message from Yahoo and open it. Then write the five-character security code in the message.
   • If you go for the option Call me then wait for your phone to ring, pick up and listen to the song you hear.
8. Enter the code in the "Check" field. This field is in the center of the page, just below the heading "Enter the account code we sent to [your number]".
9. click on To check. It's a blue button near the center of the screen.
10. click on Let's start. This will take you back to the Yahoo home page.
11. click on E-mail. This option is below the purple envelope in the top right corner of the Yahoo homepage. This is how you open your inbox in Yahoo. Your mailbox has now been created and is ready for use.

Method 2 of 2: On a tablet or smartphone

1. Open Yahoo Mail. Tap Yahoo Mail. To do this, tap the white envelope against a dark purple background with the text "YAHOO!" On it.
2. Tap on Yahoo Mail. To do this, tap the purple icon with the text Yahoo Mail in the middle of the page.
3. Tap on Sign Up. It's a link at the bottom of the screen. This will open the form with which you can create your account.
4. Enter your account information. You will need to enter the following information:
   • First Name
   • Last name
   • Email address - The email address you want to use for Yahoo. If the e-mail address you have chosen is already in use, you will have to enter a different address.
   • password
   • Mobile phone number - If you do not have a mobile phone number, you cannot create a Yahoo account.
   • Date of birth (month, day and year)
   • Gender (optional)
5. Tap on Get on. It's a blue button at the bottom of the screen.
   • If you have not completed one or more of the required fields, or if the username you have chosen is not available, you will not be able to continue until you have resolved the problem.
6. Tap on Send me a text message with my Account Code. For example, you instruct Yahoo to send a code to the mobile number you entered earlier.
   • You can also press Call me with an Account Code to tell Yahoo to call you and cancel the code for you.
7. Write down the control code. On your phone, open the messages and see if you got a message from Yahoo. Write the five-character control code in the message.
   • If you have the option Call me then wait for your phone to ring, pick up and listen to the song you hear.
8. Enter the code in the "Control" field. This field is in the center of the screen, just below the heading "Enter the account code we sent to [your number]".
9. Tap on To check. To do this, tap the blue button near the center of the screen.
10. Tap on Let's start. This is how you open your inbox in Yahoo. Your mailbox is now set up and ready for use.

Tips

• On a PC you can open the settings of your inbox by clicking on the gear at the top right of your inbox and then on More settings in the drop-down menu that will open. On a tablet or smartphone you can open the settings by clicking the three horizontal bars (☰) in the top left corner of the screen.

Warnings

• If your computer, smartphone, or tablet is already logged in to a Yahoo account, you will need to log out of that account before you can create one yourself.
