Nothing is more beautiful or delicious than the most stylish of all drinks: a classic Manhattan. This article will give you two recipes, as it can be made with Bourbon Whiskey or Rye Whiskey, depending on what you have, or what you like, or you might want to try both!

Ingredients

Rye whiskey version: This recipe is enough for one - double it if you want to share it with your friend!

  • 50ml rye whiskey
  • 25ml sweet vermouth
  • 1 to 2 drops of Angostura bitters
  • 1 lemon
  • Some cocktail cherries
  • Some ice

Bourbon whiskey version: This recipe is for two, because no one should be drinking alone!

  • Bourbon - Choose a good quality bourbon, such as Maker's Mark. You can also take American whiskey (Jack Daniels or Jim Beam).
  • Sweet dark vermouth
  • Grenadine or maraschino cherry juice
  • maraschino cherries (cocktail cherries)
  • Angostura bitters
  • Some ice

To step

Method 1 of 2: Rye whiskey version

  1. Image titled Manhattan1.png’ src=Cool the glass. The cocktail should be cold, but it should not contain ice. Put some ice in the glass to cool it.

  2. Fill a shaker with ice.
  3. Add three shots of bourbon.
  4. Add 1 - 1.5 shots of sweet vermouth.
  5. Add a splash of grenadine or maraschino cherry juice.

Tips

  • If you don't feel like a pure drink, you can also make a Manhattan "on the rocks". Take a larger glass and add ice. Stir before you drink.
  • Go to a good liquor store to see what they recommend bourbon. Bourbon connoisseurs can be found everywhere.
  • Angostura makes an orange bitter that gives the Manhattan a flavor that you will probably like too. Uses two or three drops in place of the regular bitter.

Warnings

  • Do not use the light vermouth used in Martinis. If you don't have vermouth, drink bourbon "on the rocks."
