This wikiHow shows you how to share Instagram posts - both your own posts and other interesting posts you find in your feed - with someone who might not see them otherwise.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Share your own messages

  1. Open Instagram. This is the multicolored camera icon on your home screen (iPhone / iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).
    • Use this method to share your own photo and video messages on other social networking sites (e.g. Facebook and Tumblr) or via email.
  2. Tap the profile icon. This is the outline of a person's head and shoulders in the lower right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to the photo or video you want to share.
  4. Tap ⋯ (iPhone / iPad) or ⁝ (Android). This is located in the top right corner of the photo or video you want to share.
  5. Tap Share with.
  6. Select a sharing method. Choose a different social media network to share your post or choose one of the following options:
    • E-mail: This will open your email app, where you can then enter the recipient's email address (plus any text you want to include) then tap Send.
    • Copy link: This will copy a direct URL to the message that you can paste wherever you want (e.g. a text message). To paste, tap and hold where you want the URL to appear, then tap To stick.
  7. Log in to your social media account. Through Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Flickr you will be taken to a screen where you can log into your account. Once you are logged in, go back to the cameo and the network name will then appear in blue.
    • You can share with multiple social media networks at the same time.
    • If your Instagram account is already linked with your other social media accounts, then you don't need to sign in again.
  8. Tap Share with. Your post is now available on the selected social media networks.
    • Sharing a post with a social media network links your Instagram account to that network. To manage the linked accounts, go to the settings on your Instagram - the wheel icon (iPhone / iPad) or (Android) in the top right corner of your profile - then tap Linked accounts.

Method 2 of 2: Share a message from someone else

  1. Open Instagram. This is the multicolored camera icon on your home screen (iPhone / iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).
    • Use this method if you want to share a photo or video in your feed with a friend on Instagram. The person who uploaded the photo or video will not be notified that you are sharing their post.
  2. Tap the Instagram Direct icon below the post you want to share. This looks like a paper airplane and is located to the right of the Note icon (chat bubble).
  3. Select a recipient. When you see the profile picture of the friend you want to share the message with, tap it. If not, start typing his or her name in the search bar, then tap his or her photo when it appears in the search results.
    • Tap more profiles to share the message with multiple people. You can select up to 15 recipients.
  4. Enter a message. To start typing, tap the box that indicates Write a chat message and then enter the text you want to include.
    • You can skip this step if you don't want to add your own text to your message.
  5. Tap Send. This is located at the bottom of the screen. Your friend will receive the message as a direct message.
    • If the message you are sharing is private, then your friend (the recipient of your direct message) must follow that account to view it.

Tips

  • You cannot share someone else's Instagram Story, only their photo and video posts.
  • If your Instagram account is private, only your followers will be able to view your post via the direct URL.
