The BlackBerry® is a popular smartphone that you can do a lot with. However, sometimes there is a technical problem and not everything works as it should. If nothing else seems to work, you can choose to reset the BlackBerry®. Depending on the problem, you can choose a soft or hard reset.
To step
Method 1 of 2: BlackBerry® hard reset
- Do not turn off your BlackBerry®.
- Open the back of the BlackBerry®. You have to take the battery out of the phone.
- Wait 30 seconds and then put the battery back in.
- Close the lid. Switch the BlackBerry® on again, everything should be back to normal now.
Method 2 of 2: BlackBerry® soft reset
- Restart the BlackBerry® with a soft reset. You must leave the phone on for this method.
- Hold down the "Alt" key and the right "Shift" key.
- Now press "Backspace / Delete" while holding down the other two keys.
- Wait for the BlackBerry® to reset. The screen will turn off when this happens. It takes a few minutes for everything to reboot.
- Release the keys when the screen turns off.
Tips
- First check the user manual, as the method may differ per BlackBerry®. Sometimes you can also ask the provider if they do a "master reset" or a "factory reset", then the phone will go back to the factory settings.
- You do not erase data with a soft or hard reset. This only happens through a "master reset" or a "factory reset".
- The keyboard layout is not the same on all BlackBerries. First check the instructions for use.
Warnings
- The soft reset method does not work on a BlackBerry® Pearl or a BlackBerry® Storm, because these phones do not have a QWERTY keyboard. Please refer to the user manual to learn how to reset these specific phones.
