If you reset an Android tablet, all personal data on the tablet will be deleted and all settings will be as when you bought the tablet from the store. This can be useful if you want to sell your tablet or fix system errors. You can find the reset option in your tablet's Settings menu.

To step

1. Back up any photos and videos you want to keep. Resetting your tablet will delete all personal data and files, so you will have to put things you want to keep on an SD card or your computer. You can also use a cloud backup program such as Dropbox for this.
2. Back up your contacts. Resetting your tablet also erases all contact information on the device.
   • Go to “Contacts,” press “Menu,” then select the option to copy your contact information to your SIM or SD card.
   • You can also sync your Contacts with Google by going to “Contacts”, “Menu” and then “Accounts”.
3. Press “Menu” and then “Settings” on the desktop of your Android tablet.
4. Press “Privacy” and select “Restore factory settings.”
   • If you cannot restore factory settings in the Privacy menu, go back a step and press “Storage” in the Settings menu.
5. Uncheck the box next to “SD card” to prevent the personal data on your SD card from being erased.
   • Leave the check mark in the square next to “SD card” if you want your SD card to be reset as well.
6. Press “Reset device.” Your Android tablet will now be completely wiped out and restarted, so that all settings will be as in the store again.

Tips

• Any apps you have purchased will remain available for free if you are logged into your Gmail account. You can reinstall this on a new tablet for free.
• Reset your Android tablet if you want to sell it, give it as a gift or recycle it. Resetting the device will erase all personal data and files, preventing the new owner of the device from accessing your Gmail account or confronting other sensitive information you have stored on the device.
