This article will teach you how to download apps and files directly to your Android's SD card.

Method 1 of 3: Android 7.0 (Nougat)

1. Open the Settings of your Android. This is the gear-shaped icon (Scroll down and press Storage.
2. Select your SD card. This can be called "External Storage" or "SD Card" or something similar.
3. Press ⁝. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
4. Press Change storage type. This may also be called "Storage Settings" on some devices.
5. Press Format as internal.
6. Select a storage option and press Next one. On some devices you can choose from two storage options:
   • If you want apps to store their data files (such as the cache) on your SD card, select "Use as internal storage for both apps and data".
   • If you want only apps to be stored on the card, select "Use as internal storage for apps only".
7. Press Erase & Format. The data on the card will be erased and then set to allow downloads. You will see a confirmation message once the format is complete.

Method 2 of 3: Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)

1. Open the Settings of your Android. This is the gear-shaped icon (Scroll down and press Storage.
2. Select your SD card. This can be called "External Storage" or "SD Card" or something similar.
3. Press ⁝. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
4. Press Settings.
5. Press Format as internal. Now you will see a warning letting you know that all data on the card will be erased.
6. Press Erase & Format. The card will now be formatted as internal storage. Once the card is formatted, the apps you download from the Play Store will be saved there by default.
   • Some apps cannot be downloaded to an external card. Such apps will still be installed on the internal storage of the device.

Method 3 of 3: Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and older

1. Open the file manager of your Android. It is located in the folder named My Files, File Manager or Files.
2. Press ☰ or ⁝. It's in the top right corner of the screen. The menu button may differ depending on the device, but you will know that you are seated correctly when you see a menu that contains the "Settings" option.
   • If you're using an older Android, press the menu button on your device.
3. Press Settings.
4. Press Set home folder. This is in the main panel under the heading "Select Folders".
5. Press SD card. This can also be called differently, such as "extSdCard".
6. Press Ready. Downloads will now be saved to your SD card by default.
