Voicemail is automatically included in your T-Mobile phone plan and allows you to leave messages when you can't answer your phone. To activate your voicemail, press and hold the "1" key to call your voicemail. Then follow the directions on your phone to enter a security code and set a greeting. You can change your greeting back later if you wish by calling your voicemail and pressing " *", "3" and "2" so that you can record a new greeting. Activation only needs to be done once, especially when you start receiving voicemail.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Activate your voicemail

  1. Press and hold the "1" key on your T-Mobile phone. This will automatically call the voicemail number of your account.
    • If this method does not work, you can also call "123" to access the voicemail servers.
  2. Enter your security code when prompted. By default, the password is the last four digits of your mobile number.
  3. Enter a new security code for your voicemail when prompted. The security code can be 4-7 digits long. You must enter this code every time you call your voicemail, so make sure you don't forget it.
    • You can also turn off the security code request from your phone when calling your voicemail by calling # PWO # (# 796 #) and pressing send.
  4. Record your personal voicemail greeting when prompted. Your personal greeting is what the caller will hear when they are forwarded to your voicemail. When you have finished recording, press "#". The greeting will be played so you can confirm it is the way you want it.
    • If you wish, you can also choose to skip this step and use a standard greeting
  5. Test your voicemail. Call your number from a different phone number to confirm that you have successfully enabled your T-Mobile voicemail.

Method 2 of 3: Change your voicemail greeting

  1. Press and hold the "1" key on your mobile phone. You will be automatically connected to your voicemail.
  2. Press the " *" key in the main menu. This will take you to a list of settings for your mailbox.
  3. Press the "3" key. This will take you to the Greetings menu.
  4. Press the "2" key. This allows you to record a new greeting. Your current greeting will be played before you can record a new one.
  5. Record your new greeting. Wait until you hear that recording has started and speak clearly into the microphone.
  6. Press "#" to end the recording. Your new recording will now be played.
    • If you are dissatisfied, you can press "2" again to record a new greeting.
  7. Press "1" to confirm the new greeting. Your greeting will be set and you will be returned to the menu.

Method 3 of 3: Troubleshooting

  1. Check your phone's signal. Calling your voicemail requires a mobile signal just like any other call. If the reception is poor, you may have problems connecting to your mailbox.
  2. Test alternative ways to reach your voicemail. If you are having trouble connecting to your voicemail by pressing "1", try calling "123".
    • If this method works but pressing "1" doesn't, then your voicemail feature may have been set incorrectly by T-Mobile and you should contact them for support.
  3. Call "## 004 #" to reset call forwarding. If you find that unanswered calls are not being forwarded to your voicemail, you can enter this combination and press "Send" to reset forwarding.
    • Your phone may need to reboot for the changes to take effect.
  4. Delete text messages if you don't receive voicemail notifications. If Text Messages is functional and your phone is up to date, you can try to delete all your text messages and then restart your phone. Leave a test message on your voicemail to check if the notifications are now working.

Tips

  • If you can't remember the security code for your voicemail and want to reset it back to the last 4 digits of your phone number, dial # PWD # (# 793 #) and press "send".
  • If, for whatever reason, you would prefer to stop using voicemail on your phone, you can call customer service and ask to disable this feature for your account.
  • Calls to your voicemail account consume minutes, just like other calls on the network.
  • If you are not connected to the T-Mobile network, press the "1" key to access your voicemail. Calling "123" will not work.
  • You can also check your voicemail from a landline. Call your own number and press the ( *) or (#) key to pause your voicemail greeting. When prompted, you must enter your password and you can listen to the messages.
