This wikiHow teaches you how to check the data transfer speed of your RAM memory chip, on a Mac or Windows PC.

Method 1 of 2: In Windows

1. Open the Start menu on your computer. Click the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen to open the Start menu.
2. Type cmd in the search field of the Start menu. This will search all programs and you will see a list of matching results in the Start menu. Command Prompt should be at the top of the results summary.
   • If you don't see a search field in the Start menu, just start typing. In some versions of Windows, you can search for a program by opening the Start menu and just typing, without a search field.
3. click on Command Prompt. This option should be at the top of the search results list. Clicking on it will open the command window.
4. Type wmic memory chip get speed. With this command you check the speed of your RAM in the command window.
5. Press ↵ Enter on your keyboard. The command will now be executed and a list of the speeds of each RAM chip will be displayed.

Method 2 of 2: On a Mac

1. Open the Utilities folder on your Mac. You can find this folder in the Applications folder, or by clicking the magnifying glass at the top right and using Spotlight Search to find it.
2. Double click on System information. The System Information icon looks like a computer chip. Double clicking on it will open a program in a new window.
3. click on Memory in the left panel. Locate and open the Memory tab from the navigation pane to the left of System Information. This tab shows detailed information about each RAM chip installed on your computer.
4. Check the speed of each chip in the Memory Slots table. This table shows an overview of all installed RAM chips and their speed, size, type and status.
