Often times, the version of your browser will affect which sites you can or cannot view. To check compatibility, you can check which version of Internet Explorer you have. Newer versions of Internet Explorer do not have a traditional menu bar (in addition to other parts such as the Direct Search bar in the top right corner), but a Gear menu which you can use. Older versions can access this information from the Help menu. Check out Step 1 below to learn how.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Without menu bar

  1. Click on the gear icon. Newer versions of Internet Explorer no longer feature the traditional Windows menu bar, but instead have a gear icon in the top-right corner of Internet Explorer.
    • If you don't have a gear icon or a menu bar, right-click on an empty spot in your bookmarks bar and select "Menubar" from the menu. Follow the instructions in the next section.
  2. click on About Internet Explorer. You can find this at the bottom of the menu. A new window will appear.
  3. Find your version number. The logo will show the generic version number of the version you are using, such as Internet Explorer 11. You will see the exact version directly under the Internet Explorer logo. The longer numbers indicate the specific release of the global version you are using.
    • The most recent version of Windows XP is IE8

    • The most recent version of Windows 7 & 8 is IE11
