This wikiHow teaches you how to rearrange all cells in a column according to their alphanumeric data in Google Sheets, using a desktop Internet browser.

To step

1. Open Google Spreadsheets in an internet browser. Type sheets.google.com in the address bar of your browser and press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return on your keyboard.
2. Click on the spreadsheet file you want to edit. Find and open the file you want to edit in the list of your saved spreadsheets.
3. Select the column you want to sort. Find the column header at the top of your spreadsheet and click it. This will select and highlight the entire column.
4. Click on the tab data. This button is located on a tab below the file name in the top left corner of your screen. A drop-down menu will open.
5. click on Sort range in the Data menu. This option will open a new pop-up window where you can adjust the sorting settings.
   • This option sorts the selected column and does not affect other data.
   • To sort all rows in your spreadsheet based on the data in the selected column, click Sort sheet by column in the Data menu.
6. Select your sorting method. You can select A to Z or Z to A here.
   • If you a to Z cells with lower numeric data will be pushed to the top of the column while higher numbers will be pushed to the bottom.
   • If you Z to A higher numbers will be at the top and lower numbers at the bottom.
   • If you have a header at the top of your spreadsheet and are sorting a range, check the box here Data has a row of message headers On. The top row is now not sorted as well.
7. Click on the blue one To sort-button. The sort filter is now applied, and all cells in the selected column are rearranged according to the alphanumeric data in each cell.
