Camembert is a delicious French cheese with a white rind and a buttery soft interior. If you have never eaten it, enjoy a simple preparation of camembert at room temperature, with (fruit) preserves and bread or crackers. You can also eat Camembert preheated in the oven and grill, or try adding it to your favorite dishes.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Eat uncooked camembert

  1. Let the cheese come to room temperature on the counter. Camembert tastes best when it is at room temperature, not when it has just been removed from the refrigerator. Take it out of the fridge 30 minutes before you want to eat it so it has time to heat up a bit.
  2. Cut the cheese into wedges. Cut the camembert into wedges as you would a pizza. It is easiest to cut from the center with a sharp cheese knife.
    • A cheese knife has holes in the knife so that the cheese will not stick to it. However, any sharp knife will work.
  3. Taste the crust to find out if you like it. The camembert crust is safe to eat, but it can have a pretty strong flavor. It's up to you whether you eat the cheese with or without a crust, so taste it to see what you like best.
    • Try a slice with the crust on and a slice without the crust.
    • If you don't like the crust, simply cut it off and eat only the inside of the cheese.
  4. Enjoy your camembert with crackers or bread and preserves or honey. Cut pieces off the cheese and use a knife to spread it on a cracker or piece of baguette. Eat it on its own or add a little honey or preserves.
    • Try whatever jams or (fruit) preserves you like, such as raspberry, cherry, fig or apricot.
    • You could also add a slice of fresh peach, pear, or apple in place of the preserves.
  5. Eat the cheese within a few days of when you cut the crust. While camembert will remain safe to eat after this time, its flavor will begin to wane after you cut into the crust. The rind acts as a protective barrier for the cheese, keeping it flavorful and fresh.
    • Before cutting into the crust, camembert will usually keep for 1-2 weeks in the refrigerator, and 6 months or more in the freezer.

Method 2 of 3: Try heated camembert

  1. Bake the cheese in its wooden box for easy reheated cheese. Remove the cheese from the box and remove the packaging around it. Return the cheese to the box and place it on a baking tray without the lid on. Heat the cheese in the oven at 200 ° C for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, check if the cheese has melted before removing it from the oven.
    • Try dipping toasted pieces of bread in the cheese for a delicious snack.
  2. Melt camembert over coals while grilling. If you've heated your grill for dinner, fry the Camembert on the coals for an appetizer or dessert. Wrap the Camembert tightly in aluminum foil, then place in the hot coals for about 20-30 minutes. Use pliers to take it off, then put it back in the original wooden box it was sold in.
    • As an accompaniment, you can heat freshly made garlic bread in foil next to the cheese.
  3. Fry camembert wrapped in ham in a pan for a delicious meal. Cover the Camembert with several slices of thin ham, so that the whole piece of cheese is covered with several layers of ham. Heat a pan with a little bit of butter or olive oil in it. Place the camembert in the pan and fry both sides of the ham and cheese.
    • As soon as the cheese has been in the pan for a few minutes on both sides, it should be nicely melted on the inside.
    • Serve the cheese with bread or crackers.

Method 3 of 3: Add Camembert to recipes

  1. Cut slices of camembert for a salad. Try a salad mix with a spicy leafy green such as arugula, and add slices of camembert to it. Cut a few pieces of apple or pear and drizzle the salad with a small handful of pecans or walnuts. You can even add a few chopped onions to give the salad a flavorful finish.
    • For dressing you can add a simple vinaigrette or even a honey mustard sauce.
  2. Melt camembert in your favorite carbohydrate-rich recipes. Use camembert as a substitute for cream or milk. Melt camembert, for example, in pasta dishes such as macaroni and cheese or a simple pasta with mushrooms and camembert. You can also use it in mashed potatoes; simply add camembert at room temperature before mashing the potatoes.
    • For these dishes, the best choice is to cut off the crust and use only the inside of the cheese if you want it to be part of the sauce.
  3. Make a simple panini or cheese toastie. Spread butter on the outside of two slices of tasty bread. Place a slice, butter side down, in a heated pan or panini press. Add pieces of camembert on top of the bread, and add a tasty jam on top. Place the other slice of bread on top of this, then heat the bun on both sides.
    • If you're using a panini press, simply press it down when you're done assembling the sandwich.
  4. Fry pieces of Camembert. Cut the camembert into wedges and cover with flour mixed with salt and a little dried thyme. Dip the cheese in a well-beaten egg, then in breadcrumbs. Put the cheese in 5 to 8 cm of hot oil and fry until the cheese is golden brown.
    • Try serving this cheese with a sweet and fruity vinaigrette.
  5. Ready!
