Butter slime is called that way because you can spread it out easily, just like butter. If you stretch or poke it, the slime will keep its shape and you can spread it just like butter. It is a perfect cross between clay and slime. If you want to make spreadable, elastic slime to keep your hands busy, butter slime may be the best choice for you.

Ingredients

Butter slime with clay

  • 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of borax powder
  • 240 ml of hot water
  • 120 ml of glue
  • Foaming hand soap
  • 120 ml shaving cream
  • Lotion
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Cornstarch
  • Modeling clay in the color of your choice

Butter slime without borax and clay

  • 120 ml glue
  • 120 grams of cornstarch
  • 240 ml shampoo
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) lotion
  • Laundry detergent
  • Food coloring (optional)

To step

Method 1 of 2: Make butter slime with clay

  1. Make the borax mixture. Mix 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of borax with 240 ml of hot water until the borax is completely dissolved. Set the mixture aside to use later.
  2. Pour 1 cup of glue into another bowl.
  3. Pump some lotion into the mixture. Add two to four pumps.
  4. Add about 120 ml of shaving cream.
  5. Add a small amount of the borax mixture and mix everything. Add a teaspoon at a time and mix everything thoroughly. Only add enough of the borax mixture to make the slime firm enough to clump together, but not firm enough to make it quite hard and stop it sticking to the bowl. It should be a little tacky.
    • You probably won't be using all of the borax mixture, just a few teaspoons. Adding too much borax will harden the slime, making it less easy to make butter slime.
    • When the mucus starts to solidify, you may notice that it is very similar to soft mucus. However, it is a bit stickier than that. This is what you want.
  6. Place cornstarch in another bowl. Estimate approximately how much slime you have and then pour the same amount of cornstarch into the bowl.
  7. Add some of the borax mixture to the slime if it is too sticky. If the cornstarch has made the slime too sticky or runny, add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of the borax mixture to the slime and knead it through. If the slime is still too sticky, carefully add more of the borax mixture.
    • Don't add too much of the borax mixture or the mucus will harden. The slime should become soft and elastic, not firm and easy to tear.
  8. Get about 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of modeling clay. You can add more later if you find the slime too soft.
  9. Add a little food coloring to the modeling clay (optional). If your modeling clay is white, you can color the clay with a few drops of food coloring. As a result, the slime will turn the same color when you add the clay. Since some foods can stain your hands, start with two drops and knead the food coloring into the clay. If that's not enough, you can add more later.
    • To make the slime look like butter, add two drops of yellow food coloring.
    • You can skip this step if the clay is already colored.
  10. Put 120 grams of cornstarch in a bowl.
  11. Add 1 cup of glue to the mixture.
  12. Place 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of lotion in the bowl.
  13. Gently add a little detergent to the slime and mix everything together. The slime will start to stick together when you mix it. Continue to slowly add detergent until the slime doesn't completely stick to the bowl.
    • Do not add all the detergent at once. As a result, the mucus can quickly harden, making it difficult to play with it. Start with a little bit and add more if necessary.
  14. Play with your butter slime. When you are done playing, keep it in an airtight container.

Tips

  • Instead of the borax mixture, you can use laundry detergent, liquid starch, or saline solution and baking soda.
  • Try to spice up your slime by adding glitter, beads, and other decorative items.
  • You can use watercolor paint instead of food coloring. Be careful though, because paint will stain your hands more easily than food coloring.
  • If you are using clay and want to make shiny slime, add about 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of baby oil and knead the oil through the slime after mixing in the cornstarch and extra borax mixture.

Warnings

  • Adding too much of the borax mixture or detergent can make the slime too hard to play with. So be careful not to add too much.
  • Be careful when using borax. Borax can be toxic if you inhale or swallow the powder and can cause burns if not mixed properly.

Necessities

  • Bowls
  • Stir stick or spoon
  • Airtight storage box for the slime
