This wikiHow teaches you how to move any file from your device's internal storage to your SD card using Android.
To step
- Open the file manager app. With file manager you can browse all folders on your device.
- If you don't already have a file manager app on your device, you can install one from the Play Store. Here you will find plenty of free and paid file managers.
- click on Device storage or Internal memory. This folder shows all the folders stored on your device's internal hard drive, instead of your SD card.
- Find the file you want to transfer. Browse your device's internal storage by tapping various folders and find the file you want to move to your SD card.
- To exit a folder, tap the back button on your device or screen.
- Tap and hold the file you want to transfer. This will highlight the file and display toolbar icons at the top of your screen.
- On most devices, you can select more files to transfer after you mark the first one.
- Click on the More-button. You can find this in the top right corner of your screen. This button opens a drop-down menu.
- On some devices, you may see three vertical dots or three horizontal lines instead of the More button. In this case, tap this icon.
- Select Move or Move to from the dropdown menu. With this option you can move selected files to another location. It will ask you to select a new location for your file.
- Select your SD card. Depending on your device, you may have to make your selection in a new pop-up window or on your navigation panel. Either way, tapping your SD card will open a menu listing all the folders on the SD card.
- Select a folder on your SD card. Find the folder you want to move the file to and tap this folder to select it.
- Tap on Ready or OK. This moves the selected file to this location. Your file is now saved to your SD card, instead of your device's internal storage.
Warnings
- Make sure to always back up your device. Moving system files to your SD card can damage your Android's software.
