This article will show you how to quit an app that is currently open on your Apple Watch.

To step

  1. Unlock your Apple Watch. Press the Digital Crown - this is the gear to the right of the Apple Watch case - then enter your password and press the Digital Crown again. This should show you a list of icons for your current apps.
    • If this will open an app instead of a group of apps, press the Digital Crown again.
    • If you're currently wearing your Apple Watch, you don't need to enter your passcode.
    • If your Apple Watch is already unlocked but the screen is off, the screen will open by raising your wrist.
  2. Press the Start button. This is the oval button on the right side of your Apple Watch case, just below the Digital Crown. This will display a list of the apps that are currently open.
  3. Find an app you want to close. Scroll down through the currently open apps until you find an app you want to close.
  4. Swipe the app to the left. Place your finger on the box of the app and then swipe your finger to the left. A red "X" icon should appear to the right of the app box.
  5. Press remove. This is the red "X" button to the right of the app box. This will close the app.
    • You can reopen the app by pressing its icon on the app page of your Apple Watch.

Tips

  • By closing apps that you are not currently using, you can extend the battery life of your Apple Watch.

Warnings

  • Closing an app that was working on a task (e.g., sending an email) may prevent that task from completing.
