Marinating salmon will greatly enhance its aroma without sacrificing the fish's excellent flavor. Salmon soaked in marinade absorbs and retains the flavor of the ingredients, and is much more of a culinary experience than simply adding a flavorful gravy after the fish is cooked. You can experiment with many types of oils and condiments, as well as honey, soy sauce, mustard, and yogurt. You can combine sugar and hot spices for a sweet and sour taste, or simply soak the salmon in milk to reduce the fishy taste. Gravlax is another way to marinate salmon using a mixture of vinegar and spices; after marinating salmon in the refrigerator for a few days, you can eat it without cooking. The steps below will teach you how to prepare a basic salmon marinade.
Ingredients
Servings: 1-2 (450 g pickled salmon)
Cooking time: 10 minutes
- 1 lemon or 2 limes
- 2 tbsp. l. olive oil
- ½ tsp dried thyme
Steps
1 Place the lemon on a cutting board and cut it in half.
2 Squeeze the juice into a bowl.
3 Add olive oil.
4 Add dried thyme.
5 Mix the ingredients with a spoon until combined.
6 Pour the marinade into a shallow bowl.
7 Rinse the salmon and pat dry with a paper towel.
8 Place the salmon in the marinade.
9 Cover the bowl with a lid and refrigerate for 2 hours, turning once.
10 Remove the salmon from the marinade before cooking.
Tips
- You can add dill to the marinade or use it in place of thyme.
- Add a small amount of liquid smoke to the marinade for the best flavor.
