Facebook's Ask a Question feature is a fun and rewarding way to take a survey, get advice, or just learn something new from your friends or other Facebook users. You can ask a question using the status bar at the top of the page, but if you use the “Ask a Question” feature on the group and event pages, you can track the responses you receive from participants. Get even closer to the huge Facebook community by following these simple tips on how to ask a question on Facebook.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Ask a question on your Facebook event page

1. 1 Choose the event that suits your question.
   • Click on the “Events” icon at the top left of the page.
   • Select an event from the list. You can use the calendar on the right side of the page to find events that will take place in the not very near future.
   • Click on the name of the event to go to its page.
2. 2 Click “Join” or “Maybe” to mark your presence at the event. You can only ask questions on the event pages you plan to go to.
3. 3 Scroll down to the messages section.
4. 4 Select the "Ask a question" button from those offered to you above the empty window for entering the text of the message.
5. 5 Type your question in the window.
6. 6 Add voting function. Select this option if you want people to be able to choose one of the options provided.
   • Click Voting Options.
   • Enter up to 10 answer options.
7. 7 Allow or disallow others to add answer choices.
   • Check the box next to “Allow users to add parameters” if you want everyone to be able to participate in the creation of this survey.
8. 8 Click “Post” so that those who are going to attend the event will see your question.

Method 2 of 3: Ask a question on your Facebook group page

1. 1 Select the group in which you want to ask a question.
   • Select your group name from the list on the left side of your Facebook page under the Groups section.
   • You can create a new group through this menu and ask your question in it.
   • Click on the name of the group to go to its page.
2. 2 Create a question.
   • Select the "Ask a question" button from those offered to you above the empty window for entering the question text.
   • Ask your question in the window.
3. 3 Add voting function. Indicate if you want people to be able to choose one of the provided answer options.
   • Click Voting Options.
   • Indicate the desired number of answer options under the window with your question.
4. 4 Select to allow or disallow users to add voting options.
   • Check the box next to “Allow users to add parameters” if you want everyone to be able to participate in the creation of this survey.
5. 5 Click Post to post a question to the group.

Method 3 of 3: Ask a question using the Facebook status update bar

1. 1 Open your personal Facebook page or Timeline page.
2. 2 Click on the “Update Status” icon at the top of the page.
3. 3 Ask your question in the line that appears.
4. 4 Mark friends with whom you would like to share the question.
   • Enter your friend's name after the “@” sign.
   • Click on a friend's name when a list of names opens.
   • Share the question with anyone you want.
5. 5 Click the “Post” button to post the question on your page and the pages of tagged friends.

Tips

• Formulate your advice as accurately as possible to get more helpful answers.
• Track user responses by visiting the page where you asked the question or in the “My Activity” menu in the upper right corner of the page, under the heading “Who can see my posts”.
• Also, you can receive notifications about answers to questions by clicking on the question and then on the "Subscribe" button, which will appear when you hover the cursor over the indication of the person who asked the question.

Warnings

• Please note that when you post questions using the "Ask a question" function, you cannot choose your privacy settings and the question will be visible to all users.
• Do not post any personal information when using the “Ask a Question” feature unless you want it to go to someone else besides your friends.
