Spanish is a rich language with many ways to express happiness and contentment. Here are some ideas you can use to expand your vocabulary and express yourself more accurately.
Steps
1 Start with the basics. In Spanish, "happiness" sounds like feliz.
2 Add verb form estar (be) to indicate who is happy and make a complete proposal.
- Estoy feliz. (I'm happy).
- ¿Estás feliz? (Are you happy?)
3 Try other adjectives, just make sure the gender and number match the person who is experiencing happiness.
- Estoy contento. / Estoy contenta. (I am satisfied / happy).
- Están satisfechos. (They are satisfied.)
4 Is there something that makes you happy? Try one of these structures.
- Me alegro que ... (I am glad that ...)
- Me da mucho gusto que ... (So nice that ...)
5 Use the word "nice".
- Es un placer. (Very nice).
- Fue un placer. (It was nice).
- El gusto es mío. ( I am so pleased).
Tips
- Many of these structures are ready-made phrases. You can learn them as a whole, but pay attention to the alignment of verbs and adjectives.
- Remember that there are two verbs for "to be" in Spanish. "Ser" for permanent states. "Yo soy feliz leyendo un un libro", "I am (always) happy when I read a book" and the verb "estar" for transitory states. "Estoy cansado de comer tortilla" means "I'm tired of eating tortilla" (when I eat something else, I'll be fine).
- If you want to say "I feel happy," remember that the verb sentirse - returnable: Me siento feliz.
- To wish someone a Merry Christmas, say feliz Navidad.
- To wish a happy birthday, say feliz cumpleaños.
- "Happiness" in Spanish - felicidad, a feminine noun. The plural means "congratulations": ¡felicidades!
