Have you installed any programs or extensions with Cydia that are causing you problems or taking up too much space? Applications installed via Cydia cannot be uninstalled in the usual way - by pressing and holding. Instead, they should be removed using the Cydia app itself. To find out how to do this, even if Cydia won't open, see Step 1 below.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Uninstalling the Cydia app using Cydia

  1. 1 Open Cydia. Cydia apps cannot be uninstalled in the usual way - using the app store. The fastest way to uninstall apps that were installed using Cydia is to uninstall them using Cydia's package manager. To do this, you need to open the Cydia app from your home screen.
    • See the next section if Cydia won't open.
  2. 2 Click on the "Manage" button. Located on the bottom toolbar. By clicking on the “Manage” button, you will open a menu with three options: Packages, Sources, and Storage.
  3. 3 Click on "Packages". This will open the Cydia Package Manager, where you can add or remove programs, or “packages”, on your iPhone or iPad.
  4. 4 Find the app you want to uninstall. You will see a list of installed Cydia packages in alphabetical order. Scroll through the list until you find the program you want to uninstall and then click on it to open the details.
  5. 5 Click the "Modify" button. This will open a small menu that allows you to Reinstall or Remove the package.
  6. 6 Click on "Remove". A confirmation window will appear. Click the “Confirm” button in the upper right corner to remove the package. If you want to remove multiple programs at the same time, click the "Continue Queuing" button and add other packages to remove. When you are done with selecting the deletion list, click the “Confirm” button to delete them.

Method 2 of 3: Uninstall Cydia Apps When Cydia Won't Open

  1. 1 Try rebooting into safe mode. By rebooting your jailbroken device in safe mode, you disable installed extensions, which will allow you to open Cydia and remove packages using the method presented above. To enter Safe Mode, follow these steps:
    • Disconnect your device.
    • Turn it back on while holding the volume up button.
    • Continue to hold the volume up button until the lock appears. Now, your device is booted into safe mode and installed extensions will be disabled.
    • Uninstall the programs you want. Follow the steps from the previous method to remove any packages you wish.
  2. 2 Check if your device supports this method. If Cydia still won't open, even in Safe Mode, you'll need to SSH into your device from another computer on the network and remove the packages. To do this, you need OpenSSH installed on your device.
    • OpenSSH can be installed using Cydia. This method will only work for those who installed OpenSSH before Cydia stopped opening.
  3. 3 Determine the IP address of your device. You need to know the IP address of your device in order to connect to it from a computer on your network. You can determine the IP address by opening the Settings tab and choosing Wi-Fi. Click the arrow next to the network name and look at the IP Address entry.
    • Make sure your device and computer are on the same network.
  4. 4 Determine the package ID. You need to identify the ID of the package you want to remove from your phone. To do this, search the Cydia package database on the internet. You can find it by visiting ModMyi.com and clicking on the Cydia Apps option in the menu.
    • Use search to find the package you want.
    • Select a program from the search results to open the details.
    • See the "Identifier" entry for the package details. Copy it.
    • Repeat these steps for each package you wish to remove.
  5. 5 Connect to your device via SSH. Now that you have a package ID, you need to connect to your device using the SSH protocol. This is built into most operating systems, so you don't need to install additional tools. Make sure your computer and your device are on the same network.
    • Open Command Prompt or Terminal.
    • Write ssh root @ IP Address and press Enter. Replace IP Address with the IP address of your device.
    • Enter your password if asked. By default, the OpenSSH password is "alpine".
  6. 6 Enter the commands to remove the package. Now that you are connected to your device, you can manually remove the packages you want. To do this, enter the following commands:
    • apt-get update - This way you make sure your package manager is up to date before you uninstall anything.
    • apt-get --purge remove identifier - Replace identifier with the ID you copied from Cydia's database.
    • respring - This will reboot your iPhone's interface, completing the uninstall process.

Method 3 of 3: Remove the jailbreak

  1. 1 Connect your device to your computer. If you want to get rid of the jailbreak and get your iPhone back to normal, then you can do it very quickly. This will remove all Cydia-installed packages and extensions. You will not lose any other data on your phone.
  2. 2 Open iTunes, select your jailbroken device from the Devices menu. You will see the General tab for your device.
  3. 3 Start the recovery process. To start, click on the Restore button. Restoring your iPhone will roll back the jailbreak, restoring your iPhone to normal operation.
  4. 4 Back up your device. After clicking the Restore button, you will be asked to back up your device. Select “Yes” and make a copy to your computer. This can take several minutes, but at the same time, it will be an important process for the safety of your data and settings.
  5. 5 Wait for the recovery to complete. The recovery process may take some time. Once it is finished, you will be asked if you would like to recover from the copy. Select “Yes” and select the copy you just created. Your apps, settings and data will be restored to your device and your jailbreak will be deleted.
