A quality leather jacket will never be out of date. To keep your leather jacket in the best condition, you need to preserve the material of the jacket. Unlike other types of clothing, you cannot put a leather jacket in the washing machine for cleaning as it can shrink, crack and crease. If your jacket is dirty or dull, there are many easy, quick treatments you can use to clean and keep it fresh for an extended period of time.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Use soap and water

1. 

   Make a dilute soap solution. Add a little warm water to the tub. Add 2 tablespoons of detergent and stir well until the soap dissolves in the water. The goal is to create a mild detergent that you can wipe on your shirt without damaging it.
   • Too much detergent can cause the skin to deteriorate and discolor, resulting in the shirt losing its inherent beauty and discoloration.

   Use a damp cloth or sponge for cleaning. Soak a towel or sponge in the soapy water. Wring out the water. The towel or sponge should not be too water, just damp. If it gets too wet, the water soaks into the skin, making the skin condition worse.

Method 2 of 3: Use a skin cleanser

Method 3 of 3: Maintain leather jacket

   See the manufacturer's instructions. Read the information on the label inside the shirt. Manufacturer will provide specifications based on the type and material of the leather with important precautions. In many cases, the manufacturer will advise on how to properly clean. It's best to follow the instructions to avoid damaging the shirt.

   Apply waterproof material to prevent damage to the jacket. No matter what leather material your jacket is, you should still spray waterproof djch on it from time to time. This will seal the holes in the skin. After that, the water will condense and roll down on its own, the shirt will not be affected by wearing.
   • It is best to waterproof your leather jacket as soon as you buy it.
   • If it is raining, you should wear a different coat. When the leather jacket is heavily absorbed by water, its lifespan is reduced.

   Keep the coat with a skin conditioner. Once a year, you should apply skin conditioning cream to the entire outer surface of the jacket. Skin maintenance will help moisturize, skin soft and elastic, avoiding cracks.
   • You can use a saddle soap to rub it over your shirt. This type of product can be a bit strong with soft or thin leather, but will work well on coats with hard leather.
