Looking to take your Facebook experience to the next level? You can now chat with your Facebook friends via video chat for free on Facebook or the Messenger app. To do this, you do not have to install third-party programs on your computer - the main thing is that video chat is supported by your browser.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Via Messenger on Mobile

1. 1 Start a conversation with the person you want to video chat with. Make sure to select only one person. Currently, group video chat is not available.
2. 2 Click on the video chat button on the chat panel to send a call to another person.
   • If the button is inactive or not present at all, then the other person cannot receive the call at the moment.
3. 3 Wait for the other person to pick up the phone. The addressee will be notified of the video call request. He will have to use the Messenger app or Facebook site and a webcam to answer.
4. 4 Switch between front and rear cameras using the corresponding button. Press this button during a video chat to switch the camera that will be shown on the Messenger display.

Method 2 of 2: Through the Facebook site

1. 1 Connect your webcam to your computer (if necessary). Before you can start video chat, you will need to connect your webcam to your computer, if you have not already done so.
2. 2 Open the Chat menu on Facebook. Click on the chat menu in the lower right corner to open the chat menu if it is not already open.
   • Use the browser Chrome, Firefox or Opera. Video calling is not supported in Internet Explorer, Safari, and Edge.
3. 3 Select the person you want to start a video chat with. You can choose any of those with whom you often communicate, or find a specific person from your friends list by entering his name in the field at the very bottom of the list.
   • As of today, Facebook only supports chatting with one person at a time. The group video chat feature may be added in the future.
4. 4 Click on the video chat button. It looks like a drawing of a video camera. After that, a video chat window should appear.
   • If the button is inactive, the other person cannot receive the call at the moment.
5. 5 Allow Facebook to access your webcam. The exact sequence of actions will depend on the browser you are using. Typically, you only need to click the Allow or Share button to allow Facebook to access your webcam.
6. 6 Wait for the other person to pick up the phone. Depending on their online status, the addressee will be notified of a video call request via Facebook or the Messenger app. If he answers the call, video chat will start.
