Knowing how to fall and not get hurt is very useful not only for street fights, but simply if you are a little clumsy.

Steps

  1. 1 Watch your head. This is the main part of the body, which in no case can be damaged. You don't want to hit your head on the sidewalk or other hard surface. Better to hit and hurt your hands than your head.
    • You can develop the habit of putting one hand on the back of your head to help protect your head from a fall and keep you unconscious.
    • Tilt your chin to your chest and look down (this will prevent your head from touching the ground when falling backwards).
    • If you fall forward, look to the left or right (this avoids hitting the ground with your nose). Turn your head slightly. If you fall to the ground with your head and twist your neck back and forth, there is a chance of injury.
    • If you are prone to fainting and often collapse in the presence of others, read our article on how to deal with fainting.
  2. 2 If you fall forward, put your palms forward. Make sure you fall all over your palm. You only have a split second to check it out, or else you might injure your wrist.Your wrists are not designed to support all of your weight, but they can act like a spring.
    • When falling sideways, also put your hands forward (left palm if falling to the left, right if falling to the right).
      • Note: Do not try to "fall" on the back of your hand. You should always lean on the inside and on the entire surface of the palm. Otherwise, it is very easy to break your wrist.
    • Don't block your elbows.
  3. 3 Exhale. Some say that you need to exhale as soon as possible, because it allows the body to relax after a fall. This is a pretty interesting idea, but you can damage your body if you exhale quickly from the wrong posture. To do this, you need to keep the body flexible and relaxed, then the risk of injury is much lower. This is especially important in combat (see How to Take a Punch). If you are expecting a punch to the stomach, exhale just before the punch.
  4. 4 Try to group like an accordion. Bend your ankles, then your knees, then your hips. Fold up your body. This will reduce the drop height. If someone accidentally or deliberately pushes you, immediately take this position, because you will fall down from a height of one meter instead of two.
  5. 5 If you fall from a height, group yourself as if you were just falling off your feet. This will distribute the force of the impact throughout the body, rather than focusing in one place.
    • If you fall backward, try bending your knees and squatting down a bit before you fall. Bend your back and do not try to spread your arms to soften the fall. (See How to group).
  6. 6 Practice falling first on a soft surface (like a rug). If you learn to group, the body will get used to it and it will become a reflex.

Tips

  • If someone falls on you, it is important to get up off the ground as soon as possible. Try to get to your feet immediately after falling.
  • Try to roll back. If you are experienced enough in this business, try practicing and learning this exercise to get up quickly after a fall.
  • If you fall backwards on a hike, chances are you will land on your backpack. But if you fall forward, most likely, you will first have to "twist", and only then get out from under the backpack and stand up.
