Resetting your Kindle Fire will reset the device to its original factory settings, which is useful when you want to erase your personal information from the device or can't remember your password. In this article, we will teach you how to back up all your Kindle Fire data and restore the device to its original factory settings.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Backing Up Your Kindle Fire Data

1. 1 Connect your Kindle Fire to your computer using a micro-USB cable.
2. 2 Wait for the computer to recognize your Kindle Fire and select the option to view the content and data stored on the Kindle Fire.
3. 3 Copy or move the Kindle Fire files you want to back up to your computer desktop, or wherever you want.
4. 4 Right-click on the icon for your Kindle Fire located on your computer desktop and select Remove or Eject.
5. 5 Disconnect the micro-USB cable from your Kindle Fire. After you reset your device, you can follow the same steps to move your saved files back to your Kindle Fire from your computer.

Part 2 of 2: Reset Kindle Fire Settings

1. 1 Click the Quick Settings icon on your Kindle Fire. The icon is in the shape of a wheel and is located on the status bar at the top of the device.
2. 2 Click on the More tab.
3. 3 Select "Device".
4. 4 Click on the "Reset to Factory Defaults" option.
5. 5 Click on the Erase Everything button. Your Kindle Fire will reboot and a message will appear on the screen confirming the reset process. After completing this operation, the Kindle Fire will reboot again and display the initial startup screen.

Tips

• If you enter the wrong password on your Kindle Fire four times in a row, you will receive an error message that requires you to reset your device. Back up your Kindle Fire data regularly to prevent data loss if you forget or enter an incorrect password.
• After restoring your Kindle Fire, visit the Amazon website to make sure the device is no longer associated with your Amazon account. Log in to Amazon with your username and password and click on the Manage Your Devices button to make sure the Kindle Fire is not listed.
• Reset your Kindle Fire if you're selling a device or giving it to a friend or family member. This procedure will delete all of your personal information, including usernames, passwords, credit card information, and any other private or confidential information.

Warnings

• If your Kindle Fire's battery level is below 40 percent, the device may not allow you to perform a factory reset. Check the battery power by clicking on the Quick Settings icon, then the More tab and Device. If your Kindle Fire's battery level is less than 40 percent, then charge the device until the battery level exceeds this mark.
